Maintenance Manager

Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the plant's maintenance program, ensuring equipment reliability and operational efficiency. This role involves managing daily maintenance activities, coordinating outage planning, and maintaining an up-to-date Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The Maintenance Manager also plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, developing plant improvement projects, and enhancing community engagement. With a focus on performance, safety, and community responsibility, this role is essential for the plant's continued success.

Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions: 

Implement the plant's preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance program. Manage and monitor both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, and coordinate outage activities, including outage planning. Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance staff. Ensure the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is actively used and kept up to date by maintenance personnel for tracking equipment maintenance history, work orders, purchase orders, and inventory control. Conduct and document regular testing and maintenance of critical equipment to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards. Manage equipment failure records to diagnose the root causes of repetitive failures. Collaborate with the Operations Manager to identify necessary maintenance activities to maintain and enhance plant operability. Employ best-in-class techniques to enhance plant performance, including capacity, heat rate, and availability. Identify and execute plant improvement projects aimed at enhancing performance and reducing corrective maintenance activities. Develop a reliability-centered maintenance program to minimize costs while maximizing plant availability. Manage the plant's seasonal readiness program, proactively ensuring all equipment and systems are prepared for seasonal changes to prevent potential weather-related disruptions or operational issues. Foster a safe work environment and promote a culture of safety awareness among all plant personnel, actively ensuring the safety of others. Oversee the plant's safety program, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Develop and implement incentive programs for personnel, maintain safety records, and achieve milestones outlined in the Plant's Safety Manual. Conduct periodic reviews of plant maintenance policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current plant goals, operating requirements, and industry standards. Provide continuous feedback to the Operations Manager on the effectiveness of the Training Manual. Ensure alignment of maintenance personnel goals with facility and owner objectives. Provide necessary reports to the owner and/or utilities and oversee the daily upkeep of essential plant logs and records. Enhance the morale and motivation of maintenance personnel, handling employee concerns diplomatically. Provide leadership to all plant personnel. Enhance the plant's image as a good neighbor in the community and environment. Encourage involvement and participation of plant staff in community activities. Assist in locating, screening, and hiring plant personnel. Oversee maintenance team staffing, training, and qualification plans for all operations and maintenance phases. Maintain dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance in this position. Complete special projects as required by the Plant Manager.

Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each Supervisor’s performance. This includes, but is not limited to, the following functions:

Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings (at least monthly). Address Safety at all Group Meetings. Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed. Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division. Involve all NAES teammates in the activities. Analyze result, write work orders, train, and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements. Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high-risk activities e.g., confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations. Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment. Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken.

Working Relationships 

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $140,000 to $180,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive power plant combined cycle maintenance technical and leadership experience with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent is preferred. Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in Power Plant operations or a similar field is required. Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, preferably in a power plant or similar industrial setting. Strong technical knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement best practices for plant performance improvement. Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, capable of effectively overseeing and coordinating maintenance staff to ensure a safe and productive work environment. In-depth understanding of safety regulations and practices, with a track record of promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture within a team or organization. Experience in developing and implementing maintenance programs, including the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and reliability-centered maintenance approaches. Knowledge and understanding of NERC reliability standards, with the ability to ensure compliance through regular testing and maintenance of critical equipment. Excellent communication skills, adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with superiors, subordinates, and external stakeholders. Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing maintenance challenges and implementing effective improvements. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
