Our Engineers support internal and external manufacturing operations remain operational, continuously improve and innovate. With our extensive range of facilities and environments, our Engineers have opportunities across many diverse areas including Biological, Chemical, Automation, Capital Projects, Maintenance, Safety, Process Development, Technical Services, Utilities and Validation.
The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Manager is to lead the maintenance team. The maintenance team are responsible for routine maintenance and equipment /facility breakdown service to maximize plant output while ensuring best overall cost, customer satisfaction, safety and regulatory compliance for the Animal Health New Zealand business.
For the successful execution of this role, you will be:
Developing, coaching and strengthening the maintenance team
Maximizing plant uptime
Maintaining services for the site
Developing a strong safety culture within the maintenance team and supporting site safety culture
Strong collaboration with site Capital Projects, Production, Quality, EHS, warehouse and BTS managers and their teams.
Providing advice and technical support to Manufacturing + Engineering Manager
Developing and streamlining maintenance documentation practices in accordance with GMP requirements
Improve efficiencies to ensure the site can meet future maintenance requirements as new equipment is installed
The Maintenance Manager sits within the Global Animal Health Manufacturing organization and reports to the Engineering Manager.
What will you do:
Develop and coach the maintenance team in their work and behaviours.
Collaborate with key stakeholders, particularly the production team.
Improve resilience with the team developing learning plans, career paths and devopment opportunities for the team to close gaps and progress their team.
Ensure all preventative maintenance is completed on time
Ensure all maintenance related calibrations are completed on time
Ensure all Instrumentation and Primary Standards are calibrated accurately
Ensure breakdowns are minimized through effective preventive maintenance
Ensure equipment life cycle is correct and documented and recommendations made to for an equipment replacement program
Ensure preventive maintenance program is aligned with the plant output schedule minimizing any impact on plant output
Delivery of all Engineering Breakdown Maintenance
Ensure general engineering assistance (breakdown, problem resolution and root cause analysis) including input for improvement and development work, for production and general Site.
Ensure all breakdowns and faults are recorded and logged in the engineering database
Ensure all equipment failures are logged to maintenance calendar for Work Order allocation
Produce monthly report on Breakdown and equipment status data against agreed KPIs
Delivery of Site Services Support
Ensure compliance with building codes
Manage site security and fire protection
Oversee energy management for the sites
Provide café, cleaning, laundry and grounds maintenance services for sites
Ensure full operation and maintenance of utilities for sites
Provide Leadership for Direct Reports
Actively develop staff through coaching and training
Drive business results through the performance management system
Maintain an effective Call-Out system to provide 24/7 coverage for emergencies
Develop a shift schedule to support extended production hours
Ensure that Contractors are inducted and supervised on site
Facilitate and support Engineering team meetings
Operate Within the Engineering Cost Centre Budget
Prepare cost estimates and capital requests as necessary
Process and approve invoices in a timely manner
Seek and eliminate unnecessary costs
Ensure Regulatory Compliance and a focus on Quality Processes
Ensure compliance to all regulatory requirements
Ensure that there is a full set of up-to-date SOPs including those for preventative maintenance
Continual focus on improvement
Input into Qualification and Operational Qualification documents as required
Ensure all validation, calibration and maintenance check sheets are complete in a timely manner
Ensure all staff are trained and that training is recorded and up to date
Ensuring all statutory documents for Pressure Vessels, Pressure Equipment and pipework are kept up to date
Support internal and external audits
Support Capital Projects
Provide input into prioritization of projects
Provide input into possible solutions and concepts
Provide input to site master planning and defining overall site strategies on key infrastructure.
Ensure that there is participation in Design Reviews (incl constructability, maintenance, safety in design) and HAZOPS to cover maintenance requirements
Review RFC requests for capital and provide input
Review Project Initiation documents and provide input
Ensure that critical spares for new equipment are identified and purchased
Ensure all project documentation is transferred into the engineering archive in a timely manner
Documentation and PV Responsibilities
Maintain all documentation in accordance with the Company’s quality standards
Develop the team performance for delivering good quality documentation with a focus on right first time
Maintain the Engineering Archive to ensure documentation can be found and retrieved in a timely manner
Maintain the Site Pipe Specifications
Maintain site Drawing Database
Ensure all building warrant of fitness documentation is kept current and is readily accessible
EHS
Ensure all hazards and environmental aspects within maintenance responsibility are identified, documented, assessed and controlled in accordance with EHS procedures.
Ensure compliance with legal and other requirements.
Assist in the development of EHS objectives, targets and performance indicators, establish EHS improvement projects and review progress. This includes providing input into new EHS SoP’s and initiatives.
Ensure all employees receive such EHS information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to perform their work in a manner that is safe and without significant risk to health or the environment.
Ensure compilation of EHS reports as required by senior management, regulatory authorities and others.
Identify and record EHS monitoring requirements and implement appropriate monitoring.
Ensure scheduled audits and inspections (for which you are responsible) are conducted and necessary corrective actions are developed and completed.
Ensure that contractor safety inductions are carried out, appropriate permits are issued, and contractor work is overseen to ensure it is performed in a safe and appropriate manner.
What should you have:
Advanced Trade qualification in relevant discipline. Preferred options are Industrial Measurement and Control, Electrical or Mechanical.
Bachelor of Engineering with Electronic/Instrumentation focus is acceptable provided adequate field experience can be demonstrated.
Further qualifications, courses or diplomas related to electronic/instrument maintenance, environmental, health and safety, building services, process software and calibration are desirable. In some cases on the job training may prove satisfactory, depending on past industry experience.
Minimum 8 years post tertiary related experience in a related field
Experience with GMP, GLP or ISO 9000 in a production environment or a highly regulated industry (preferably biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing)
Working knowledge of NZ electrical codes, Building Codes, NZ Health and Safety and RMA legislation
Previous managerial experience preferred or ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills.
