The apprenticeship program is intended to introduce people to injection molding with the long-term objective of becoming a Mold Maker and/or Tooling Engineer with Rain Bird Corporation.  This position is a two-year/4000-hour apprenticeship with the requirement to enroll in Pima Community College courses as specified by Rain Bird Corporation and the guidelines of the Registered Apprenticeship.

 

The Apprentice will gain the necessary skills and experience to:

Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on injection molding tools.Fabricate injection molding tooling components.Repair and refurbishment injection molding tools.Assist and lead root cause investigations of injection molding tool problems.Diagnose injection molding failures.Assist setting up injection molding tools for production. Responsibilities Identify Mold issues, Trouble shoot and recommend solution.Knowledge and experience to Set-up and operate tool room equipment using very tight tolerances (Surface grinders, Milling machines, lathes, EDM, wire EDM, CNC machines).Must be knowledgeable in calculating shrinkage for resins.Ability to read and understand mold drawings, mold 3D designs and part drawings.Perform mold repairs, fabrication of mold parts, Engineering changes, maintenance work per maintenance procedures and best practices.Maintain proper record of activities and time required to complete the given task.Provide reports verbal and written reports.Responsible for special projects as requested. Report to the tool room supervisor all matters requiring his attention.Apply and use the safety procedures and devices required for accident prevention in all their tasks. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GEDEligible to enroll in Pima Community CollegeStrong problem-solving skillsExperience with hand toolsAttention to details and ability to work independently.Multi-tasking

Bilingual (English/Spanish)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsLeadership experienceMachining knowledge/experience
