JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

LOCATION: BRIARWOOD, NY
SALARY: $18 - $21 per hour
SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Mechanic performs all necessary interior and exterior facility repairs including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, window, and lock work of a 200 bed men’s homeless shelter. Keeps facility in working order using troubleshooting techniques and performing repairs as necessary. Fills in for Custodian/Driver in his/her absence and on designated shifts. Reports to the Lead Mechanic. Scheduled hours of work will vary based on the needs of the facility. Weekend and evening hours are required. Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Escorts outside contractors, inspectors and other visitors and accepts deliveries as neededResponsible for all repairs in building and on groundsTroubleshoots and repairs includes light electrical and plumbing (outlets, switches, light fixtures, washers, seats and stems; drain lines; sinks; tubs; and toilets. Clears stoppagesPerforms HVAC troubleshooting and servicing including cleaning units/replacing filtersMakes repairs to damaged sheetrock and plaster. Sands and paints as necessaryRepairs/replaces windows, doors, locks and flooring; assembles/repairs/installs room furnitureRepairs any client damage to rooms, furniture or room fixturesResponsible for all mechanical work on room turnovers and for work orders for occupied roomsCompletes preventative maintenance checklists as directed by SupervisorMay assist as needed with transfers or packing and storing of residents’ belongingsIn the absence of Custodian/Driver, performs all necessary custodial dutiesIn the absence of Custodian/Driver, drives agency vehicles to transport clients and materials Performs other related duties as assignedEXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED with English and Math skills required. Trade/Technical School training a plus. Two (2) years mechanical experience and experience with floor care equipment and procedures necessary. Valid NYS Driver license & clean record required.
