Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of facility mechanical systems, equipment, and components. Additionally, this person will aid with the maintenance and repairs of all other building Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems when necessary. The individual may work independently or as part of a team to safely accomplish department objectives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Perform all duties following safe work practices. Must be compliant with Lock-Out Tag Out and Confined Space programs. Perform various Preventive and Corrective Maintenance tasks to maintain and repair facilities mechanical infrastructure, equipment, and systems. This includes, but is not limited to, water pumps, air compressors, vacuum pumps, air handlers, heat exchangers, pressurized piping systems, drain systems, ice machines, and automatic doors. Apply analytical and manual skills in inspecting, maintaining, installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment and systems. Proficient use of power tools, hand tools, and mechanical testing equipment i.e. drill press, grinders, drills, and motor/pump alignment tools. Interface with vendors/contractors to facilitate mechanical and plumbing system repairs or replacements. Assist with Preventive and Corrective Maintenance of all other building MEP systems. Evaluate and make recommendations on equipment condition and life cycle. Identify energy savings projects through improved efficiencies. Inspect the buildings and grounds to ensure safe, well maintained conditions and advise Supervisor of needed repairs. Must be able to prioritize work to see the needs of the patient come first. Complete work orders as assigned and in a timely manner. Record work and time electronically in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Maintain records on work projects completed; prepare written reports related to work assignments; document actions taken and present written progress reports. Wear proper personal protective equipment while performing job duties. Maintain inventory and recommend supplies and equipment for purchase. All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Education: Completion of an associate degree or two-year vocational/technical school in mechanical systems or similar program focused on the maintenance, installation, and operation of building mechanical or plumbing systems or completion of 4 years’ apprenticeship in mechanical or plumbing is required.
Experience: 6 years’ work experience with building mechanical and/or plumbing systems i.e. compressed air, pressurized water and gravity drain systems, steam systems, air handlers and ventilation systems, conveyance systems, and maintenance of mechanical machinery and equipment.
Mechanical and/or utilities maintenance experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Must be able to independently troubleshoot and repair complex equipment or system breakdowns. Ability to be on the department on-call schedule. Ability to work nights and/or weekends per department schedule. Familiarity with TJC, NFPA, and OSHA regulations applicable to healthcare settings is preferred. Ability to read and interpret building schematics. Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Florida Driver License is required.
