The Linden Cogeneration Plant is a 980 MW natural gas combined-cycle facility at the Phillips 66 Refinery in Linden, NJ. In addition to generating electricity, it supplies process steam to the refinery. The plant features five GE 7EA gas turbines and one GE 7FA gas turbine, each connected to a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG). The HRSGs feed into a common steam header that supplies steam to three turbines and the adjacent refinery.

The Maintenance Mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of plant operations. In this hands-on position, you will inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment, utilize diagnostic tools, and manage parts inventory while adhering to safety and operational standards. Your expertise in troubleshooting, equipment assembly, and using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) will contribute to maintaining a safe, high-performing facility.
Primary Functions
Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Mechanic will include the following primary functions:
Perform routine inspections by observing mechanical devices in operation, identifying potential issues, and recommending necessary repairs. Repair and maintain plant equipment in accordance with vendor recommendations and established plant procedures. Assist with tracking parts issued and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts at the plant site. Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to requisition parts from the warehouse, generate and close work orders, and initiate purchase requisitions for part repairs. Assemble, dismantle, and reassemble plant mechanical equipment for inspections and repairs. Collect vibration data and oil samples and analyze the results to diagnose potential mechanical issues. Start equipment to test its performance, making necessary adjustments to ensure proper functionality. Set up and operate machine tools, including drill presses, grinders, welders, and other equipment, to fabricate or repair parts and machinery. Initiate purchase requisitions for parts and machines as required. Complete all required logs and records throughout the shift to ensure proper documentation. Assist with shutdown and startup procedures during outages to maintain efficiency and safety. Maintain a safe working environment by following strict housekeeping practices and adhering to all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies. Operate all plant equipment within the scope of job responsibilities, ensuring adherence to operational standards. Proficiently read and interpret mechanical drawings to ensure accurate equipment repairs and maintenance. Working Relationships
The Maintenance Mechanic reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and receives general direction from the Lead Maintenance Mechanic and other plant management. This role coordinates with other plant personnel and involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and others must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
This position offers a pay rate of $48.78 per hour.
Job Qualifications
High school education, providing a solid foundation in procedures and instructions. An Associate Degree in Power Plant Technology or a related technical field, particularly with a focus on mechanical or maintenance training, is highly advantageous. Must hold a valid TWIC card or be able to obtain one within a designated timeframe. Hands-on experience in power-generating facility maintenance, preferably as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or equivalent role. Strong commitment to safety protocols and adherence to industry regulations, ensuring operational and safety standards during maintenance and repairs. Comprehensive understanding of power plant operations, including preventive and predictive maintenance, with expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, and turbines. Proficient in assembling, disassembling, adjusting, and aligning mechanical equipment, as well as using tools like precision measuring devices, diagnostic tools, and fabrication equipment. Skilled in using and interpreting precision tools and diagnostic equipment for accurate repairs and adjustments. Strong oral and written communication skills for coordinating with teams, reporting activities, and ensuring effective collaboration. Team-oriented with proven ability to collaborate, share insights, and supervise contractors or technicians to uphold quality and safety standards.
