Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor
Summary About the Position: This is job announcement is for a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-09, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Operations Division. This position is located at the Coralville Lake Project Office located in Iowa City, Iowa. Responsibilities Adjust plans, priorities, assignments, and methods to accomplish work effectively and efficiently. Explain safety requirements and instruct on the proper use and care of safety equipment. Determine equipment, supplies, and maintenance required for work to be completed. Explain work requirements, methods, procedures, instruct on new procedures and provide advice when problems arise. Operate flood control structures including sluice gates, tainter gates, motors, pump stations, spillways, levees etc. Review work in-progress or upon completion. Exercise full supervisory responsibility over operations and maintenance work and subordinate workers. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common maintenance tasks such as: performing facility and equipment maintenance and repairs such as, water/sewer line repairs and replacements. Oversee and execute maintenance work within the instructions and time limits provided, establish priorities, deadlines, and sequence of work for a maintenance crew. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments This position requires the below PHYSICAL EFFORTS and WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Majority of work requires light to moderate physical effort in the handling of equipment and tools, while working from scaffolds, standing, stooping, bending, working overhead, etc. On occasion, may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Depending upon type of duties being performed, works either outside under complete variety of weather conditions typical of the geographic area or inside normally heated or semi-heated areas. May be subject to electrical shock, working in cramped quarters, normal cuts and bruises associated with handling a variety of hand tools, and/or more serious injury associated with power tools, mobile equipment, etc. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
