Job Summary
The Utility Systems Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, adjusting and maintaining a variety of utility systems, including high pressure steam boilers, ammonia refrigeration, well water, potable water, hot water, fire suppression, pneumatic, and HVAC equipment. This role requires hands-on experience with a diverse range of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to perform routine and emergency repairs, preventative maintenance, and system inspections. The operator must be proactive, self-directed, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

 

Key Responsibilities:Operate steam boilers and associated equipmentOperate ammonia refrigeration system and associated equipmentOperate hot water heating systemsOperate plant and water filtration systemsOperate air compressor systemsMonitor HVAC, fire suppression and air moversPerform daily equipment rounds, inspections and water testingPerform assigned preventative maintenance tasksTroubleshoot and address equipment failuresPerform general housekeeping and other assigned tasks as neededNOTE: this description is not intended to be all inclusive. Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Must be 18 years of age or olderMust be able to work in the United States without sponsorshipSix-months proven ammonia refrigeration or high-pressure steam system experienceGeneral mechanical or electrical maintenance experienceRead, write, and orally communicate in English and ability to work with no or little supervisionFlexibility to work overtime, weekends and holidays as scheduled

Preferred Qualifications:

Ammonia refrigeration or steam system Certifications or licensesFamiliarity with PSM / RMP standardsOne-year proven experience in an industrial ammonia refrigeration or high-pressure steam environmentOne-year proven experience in general or advanced MaintenanceFamiliarity with water treatment systems, steam auxiliary equipment, air compressors, air conveyance equipment, pumps, fire suppression, HVAC systems

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability and willingness to learn and advance in an industrial ammonia refrigeration environmentAbility and willingness to learn and advance in an industrial high-pressure steam environmentStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systemsAbility to perform preventative, routine and emergency maintenance and repairsProficiency in communicating and collaborating with cross-functional teamsCompetency in taking and logging system readings to ensure proper functionalitySelf-directed with a strong ability to work independentlyDetail-orientated with a commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standardsProactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues
