This position is a part of a Career Progression Group. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Starting rate is $17.18 for the Maintenance Repairer 1 and $19.67 for the MR 2 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only. Rate may be increased dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. This position requires the employee to pass a Qualification process to be promoted to a Maintenance Repairer 2. Persons applying must possess a valid Louisiana Class C Driver’s license. Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to: + Installs, maintains, alters, repairs and removes simple electrical fixtures, interior light fixtures, light machinery, electrical outlets and switches; b) replaces ballasts and bulbs in light fixtures throughout the campus; c) installs, maintains, alters, repairs, and removes suspended ceilings and grid; d) installs, maintains, alters, and repairs plumbing fixtures, toilets, unclog sink/toilet/tub drains; e) installs, maintains, alters, repairs, and removes campus fencing, sidewalks and parking lots; f) patches holes in drywall and touches up paint; g) installs vinyl composite floor tile (VCT) and replaces carpet squares; h) performs minor roof repairs; i) installs white boards in classrooms, bulletin boards where approved and wall hangings in offices; j) installs, maintains and replaces restroom accessories – dispensers, receptacles, shelving: k) repairs broken furniture when practical; I) assists other trades in their duties (plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, carpenters, sign shop and painters) when needed + Preventive Maintenance work + Minor Project work + Equipment operation and maintenance + Special events work; b) campus maintenance emergencies; c) work orders; d) picking up parts and materials from vendors; e) keeping assigned shop area neat and clean; f) plan, price, and order materials necessary for repairs using proper facility purchasing rules/regulations. Job Distinctions: Differs from Maintenance Repairer 1 because of the expanded scope of journeyman repair work which includes installation of plumbing and electrical fixtures, equipment repairs, and repairs to marine vessels. Differs from other maintenance jobs by the broad spectrum of trades functions and by the absence of specialized tasks. Examples of Work AS A MAINTENANCE REPAIRER Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioning/heating systems and other mechanical and related fields such as plumbing, carpentry and electrical. Maintains and makes general repairs to a variety of motorized equipment including tune-ups, replacement and adjustment of worn or damaged parts, (carburetors, generators, alternators, starters, pumps, brake linings/pads, etc.) and limited dis-assembly of major components (engines, transmissions, final drives, etc.) to determine the extent of damage and repairs necessary. Makes minor repairs to navigational locks such as replacing hydraulic hoses. Makes limited repairs to appliances, replaces parts and makes adjustments, etc. Starts, operates and checks for safety and maintenance of a wide variety of hand held equipment, motorized vehicles, tractors, cotton pickers, combines, hay balers, planters, etc. Performs general road maintenance tasks. AS A MARINE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER Performs minor and major repairs on marine vessels and all marine facilities. Participates in painting, pipefitting, carpentry and electrical repair of marine vessels and related equipment. Performs minor maintenance on all equipment assigned to his use. Requisitions supplies and materials as needed. Estimates labor and materials necessary to accomplish repairs as needed. Oversees work of subordinate repairers and Trades Helpers when assigned to assist in repair work. Performs other duties or assignments as directed by higher ranking personnel.
