Maintenance Supervisor, LNG

The Tacoma LNG facility plays a pivotal role in the region's energy landscape. The facility serves as a provider of cleaner fuel alternatives for Alaska's maritime vessels, as well as residential and commercial customers of Puget Sound Energy by supplying essential natural gas reserves, ensuring reliable service even during the most frigid winter days. Opportunity Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor will administer the monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of all production, auxiliary, and facility equipment and will manage plant staff in carrying out their duties in support of this to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This includes ensuring that the staff performs their duties to maintain optimal performance and reliability of the equipment. This position involves driving compliance with HSE programs, managing the Permit to Work system, and coordinating contractor support to ensure the efficient operation of plant equipment. Additionally, the supervisor will lead maintenance planning, supervise personnel, and contribute to the development and execution of the plant's operational and budgetary goals.

Additionally, your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Supervisor includes the following primary functions:

Protect the owner’s investment in machinery, equipment, and facilities by overseeing the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, and control of all production, auxiliary, and facility equipment. Drive HSE program compliance as an active member of the plant leadership team. Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to ensure they align with current plant goals and operational requirements. Motivate, direct, and supervise personnel to accomplish their duties effectively and efficiently through performance appraisals, rewards, discipline, and strong management skills. Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system to ensure compliance with relevant company and regulatory requirements. Assign daily tasks, supervise performance, and evaluate the completion of assigned responsibilities. Develop, track, and manage long-term maintenance plans while utilizing an organized method to plan day-to-day activities, including weekly and monthly schedules. Interface with the site engineering team as needed for Management of Change (MOC) reviews and to ensure optimal operation of the liquefaction process, focusing on electrical consumption, mixed refrigerant composition, production targets, and other key metrics. Coordinate contractor support for equipment repair or maintenance, including defining work scope, negotiations, contract development, and implementation. Lead the planning and execution of maintenance outages and projects, applying effective time management principles, and provide the O&M Manager and Plant Manager with updates on the availability and reliability of facility equipment. Support equipment operational reliability and availability together with optimizing maintenance effectiveness and costs by implementing preventive, predictive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance planning, and procedures. Develop and maintain equipment history records, including operating hours, maintenance downtime, costs, availability, and manpower utilization, and report this information to the O&M Manager and Plant Manager. Assist the Plant Manager with the development and monitoring of the plant budget, operating plan, and technician development initiatives. Participate in facility audits as requested by the company. Perform other duties as assigned by the O&M Manager.

Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed. Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division. Involve all NAES teammates in the activities. Analyze result, write work orders, train, and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements. Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high-risk activities e.g., confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations. Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment. Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the O&M Manager and receives general direction from the Plant Manager. This position also supervises subordinate maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $123,000 to $147,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with extensive maintenance and technical experience in industrial facilities (LNG a plus) and leadership, with a proven track record of accomplishments and career progression.

A technical undergraduate degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field is preferred but not required. Possession of a current TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one as part of pre-employment contingencies is required. Prior supervisory or leadership experience is required, with the ability to guide and support maintenance teams effectively. Work experience in an industrial plant setting is preferred, with experience in an LNG Liquefaction Plant, air separation, cryogenic, or energy sector being beneficial. A solid understanding of LNG liquefaction, storage, and vaporization processes, including cryogenic systems and related safety standards, is beneficial. Familiarity with PHMSA-regulated LNG facilities and an understanding of relevant regulatory requirements, including PHMSA, OSHA, EPA, and local codes, is advantageous. Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) processes in industrial operations is helpful but not required for entry-level supervisory roles. Knowledge of Amine Systems is a plus but not mandatory for this role. Strong understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling is required to ensure the efficient operation of the facility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required. Experience with Microsoft Project is a plus. Experience working with and managing CMMS systems. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner, are essential for effective supervision. Good organizational, time management, and communication skills are essential for success in this role. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
