Maintenance Supervisor

Summary

The Plant Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for working and managing the Plant Maintenance Department, preventive maintenance, machine modifications, and general ground maintenance, as well as reviewing information and making strategic decisions to improve machine uptime, and reduce expenses, downtime, and overtime. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee management of the Plant Maintenance Department personnel, consisting of:

Interviewing, hiring, and training new employees in compliance with company guidelines, and federal and state governmental laws and regulations.

Providing timely performance coaching and counseling in the form of daily verbal feedback, annual written performance evaluations, frequent positive encouragement and recognition, and documented disciplinary actions, as necessary.

Managing employee vacation/time-off requests to ensure employees’ compliance with company guidelines, and adequate departmental coverage.

Identifying employees’ training/developmental needs and ensuring the accomplishment of these training objectives.

Scheduling employees’ working hours to provide machine coverage and downtime maintenance repairs with a minimum amount of overtime.

Maintain accuracy of timekeeping/payroll system daily, and approve before payroll run.
 

Maintenance Department responsibilities:

Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems.

Evaluate and modify PLC programs and touch screens as needed.

Provide internal maintenance training or coordinate external training with HR as needed.

Maintain a sufficient supply of spare machine parts and maintenance supplies.

Assist Maintenance employees when needed.

Continually update preventive maintenance schedule, and ensure timely completion.

Continually seek ways of modifying machines to improve efficiency or product quality.

Inspect the plant and grounds on a routine basis for potential hazards or OSHA violations and schedule necessary corrections.

Participate in Maintenance/Production meetings.

Participate in plant environmental/safety inspections.

Ensure that all Maintenance areas are maintained in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
 

Strategic Planning and Direction:

Obtain and review statistical information regarding machine performance and identify areas to improve uptime.

Evaluate and report on work orders to prioritize and ensure timely completion, working closely with production and quality departments.

Review time and labor data to streamline maintenance operations wherever possible, and reduce overtime.

Proactively identify and implement ideas for improving relationships between maintenance, production, and the lab at both plant facilities (rolled roofing plant and liquid resin facility) working to create a cohesive working environment.

Safety & Environmental

Comply with all safety regulations and policies

Utilize all prescribed PPE (personal protective equipment), at all times in designated areas (such as safety glasses, welding hoods, gloves, cutting goggles, respirators, shoes, vests, etc.)

Observe all safety requirements (such as, lockout/tag out, hot work permits, forklift seatbelt, hazardous work, confined space, elevated work, etc.,)

Actively participate in plant safety meetings and lead weekly maintenance safety meetings.

Immediately report safety hazards to the appropriate management

Proactively look for safety improvements and bring them to the attention of the management team

Comply with all environmental regulations

Ensure the maintenance team is following all environmental regulations in the performance of duties, and properly disposing of waste and used parts, etc.

Coordinate with Maintenance/Operations Management in the assignment and implementation of approved safety and/or environmental improvements or repairs (equipment, facility, etc.)

Provide backup assistance to maintenance personnel, as needed.

Provide maintenance assistance for the plant as needed, including: PLC, Fabrication, Machine Shop, etc.
 

Under This Roof, We Require

5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment

Strong background in Allen Bradley PLC systems (Installation, Troubleshooting, and Programming.)

3+ years of recent supervisory experience

Strong electrical and mechanical background

Excellent communication and administrative abilities

Strong leadership capabilities

Ability to coach and motivate others

Excellent organizational skills

Proven follow-up and problem-resolution ability

Solid computer skills
 

Physical Demands:

Must meet physical requirements to work in confined spaces as required by OSHA.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Must meet physical requirements to safely operate all moving equipment, ie. forklifts, man lifts, tractors, and sweepers, as required by OSHA.

Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

Must have the ability to work in the plant/warehouse environment (including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc.)

Must have visual acuity to read documents, files, computer screens, equipment information, etc.
 

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection.
