Maintenance Supervisor - NRO

OVERVIEW

Supervise multi-site day-to-day maintenance operations at the Chicago and Calumet Non-Refinery Operation Plants with 4-5 direct reports. Drive the success of the site reliability program by effectively supervising the technicians, assigning planned work tasks, and recognizing and implementing improvements for the facility. Lead by example, promoting a culture of Safety & Reliability.  This is an active role on the plant floor, with about a 70% plant floor / 30% office balance. In this role, you must be comfortable with leading daily & weekly meetings with the maintenance team, managing contractors, reporting out daily on maintenance activities in a formal setting, and working with all members of operations leadership to complete daily tasks and projects. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise, direct, coach and assign work of 4-5 maintenance technicians, across 3 shifts Ensure maintenance technicians have appropriate resources to complete their task in a timely manner Schedule & approve timekeeping for maintenance technicians, including review of vacation requests & maintain an accurate vacation calendar for maintenance technicians Conduct required trainings with maintenance technicians Have availability to adjust schedule to work off-shift hours periodically with off-shift maintenance technicians. Maintain good employee relations, morale, and discipline and initiate corrective actions when required Follow up on assigned work to confirm proper completion of work and documentation Conduct root cause analysis safety investigations following any maintenance technician injury or reported near miss Supervise contractors on site completing planned work, projects, or emergency repairs Maintain organized equipment records on all equipment and company property, such that OEM documents are readily available for maintenance technicians when needed Plan and schedule maintenance work to be done by either plant personnel or outside contractors Provide feedback to Operations Team on planned work and recommend improvements to achieve reliability targets Manage materials inventory to a weekly plan for both sites Actively participate in Safety, Food Safety, and CI activities Work effectively and ensure that food safety, authenticity, legality, and quality are maintained. Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials, to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate action.

 

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCES

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering technology, or related discipline from accredited university preferred. 5+ years of Mechanical Maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing facility preferred  1-3+ years in maintenance, engineering and / or a similar technical role in manufacturing required, preferably food manufacturing 1-3+ years of experience scheduling, planning, managing PM/Work Order program, and managing parts inventory required Track record of success in Safety, Reliability, Quality, and employee involvement and an ability to promote/develop maintenance excellence is desired. Credibility and respect across the organization is important Mechanical knowledge is required with Electrical and PLC knowledge preferred Experience in developing sound predictive and preventative maintenance programs strongly preferred Experience operating SAP strongly preferred Experience working in Microsoft Office Programs strongly preferred Experience supporting a multi-shift operation preferred Demonstrated experience in adhering to budgets preferred

 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

Must be able to demonstrate a strong mechanical and electrical technical skillset General knowledge of Welding, Plumbing, Commercial electrical, Electrical engineering, and controls preferred Demonstrated ability to coach and train employees in a team-based environment Strong computer skills: Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook are required Some CMMS platform (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or similar) is preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to Lead, Supervise, and make decisions Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed Industrial food processing experience preferred Desire for growth within the organization  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires the ability to unassisted lift 50 lbs maximum Requires ability to use a keyboard, monitor and calculator Requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone

 

TRAVEL

5% to 10% travel outside of geographic scope 2-3 day travel requirement between the two plants (based on business needs)

COMPENSATION: $73,500-$136,500 plus bonus

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.
