Maintenance Supervisor - Proliant Dairy Ingredients

Education:    

High School Diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in maintenance, industrial technology, engineering, or related field preferred.

Experience:   

Minimum thre years of experience in a food processing or non-edible food processing environment required.Five years of equipment maintenance experience in areas such as food and beverage processing, production, or manufacturing required.Three years of leadership experience required.Strong electrical PLC knowledge, knowledge of pneumatics, mechanical equipment, sanitary pumps and valves, refrigeration, water systems and steam systems required.Experience in the dairy industry highly preferred.

JOB DUTIES:

Equipment and Machinery Duties:

Develops, implements, maintains and records a proactive preventive maintenance program for plant machinery and equipment, the physical plant, utilities and grounds to assure the safe and efficient operation in accordance with state, federal, local regulations and company procedures.Coordinates with production the addition or replacement of current equipment/machinery, striving for minimal interruption to the production process.  Also coordinates and schedules maintenance department work-flow, assigning projects to appropriate maintenance staff ensuring the dependable operation of plant equipment/machinery.Contacts contractors, vendors, and suppliers, coordinating installations or repairs in the most cost effective and efficient manner.  Contacts outside contractors/repair service when repairs/malfunctions occur beyond the scope of internal capabilities.Maintains continual communications with the maintenance department team and plant management as projects progress or as production concerns arise. Interprets mechanical specifications and operational methods of equipment/machinery, training plant personnel on the proper use, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment.Directs, assists, and troubleshoots repairs and breakdowns with mechanical and electrical issues in a timely and efficient manner. Maintains a clean manufacturing environment after maintenance work is complete by making sure things are picked up by both internal and external workers eliminating potential for product contamination.Evaluates and communicates the progress of new mechanical processes used in production to the Plant Manager and Director of Operations and recommends modifications to improve production efficiency or cost reduction procedures.Ensures company’s food safety and quality policies are being followed.Assist with special or ongoing projects in collaboration with the Plant Manager.Work collaboratively with Director of Operations and Continuous Improvement Manger on mechanical equipment layouts and necessary facility modifications to prepare for new equipment/machinery or mechanical processes for additional product lines.

Other Duties:

Be a visible and leadership presence by demonstrating compliance with the Company’s safety expectations.Identify and address safety risks & employee concerns.Work with all other supervisors to collectively ensure that all safety policies and procedures are being followed.Leads, mentors, and develops maintenance team members.Assists with the development of the budget as it relates to expected repairs or purchases of plant machinery and equipment.Collaborates with Plant Manager through the hiring process of maintenance personnel.Facilitates the maintenance training program for the maintenance staff.Prepares weekly project reports/updates on current projects to the Plant Manager.Reviews purchase orders ensuring current projects remain on budget and investigates discrepancies.Process work orders received from the production supervisors incorporating and prioritizing needs according to overall effect on plant operations.Operates forklifts and non-motorized pallet jacks as required.Follow GMP Standard Operating Procedures for production of product and maintenance of a controlled manufacturing environment.Understanding of basic FDA, USDA and OSHA regulatory requirements.Lead the maintenance team in completion of the necessary documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.Develop necessary documentation to schedule and track routine/preventive maintenance as well as document any unscheduled repairs, modifications, or maintenance.In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Plant Manager or a qualified Maintenance Technician will cover the duties of the role.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Ability to consistently model each of the 4 Proliant Dairy values –Teamwork, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Leadership– to preserve our culture.General and specific knowledge of engineering practices/principles, and mechanical equipment/machinery used in an edible food processing plant.  The ability to develop, analyze and implement engineering methods and processes.General knowledge of the equipment/machinery involved in the production process and a thorough understanding of each component’s role in the production process.Specific knowledge of industrial production processes in an edible food processing plant.General and specific knowledge in the following areas:  welding, pumps, electrical systems, plumbing, refrigeration, and metal fabrication.Ability to learn and safely operate various types of scientific and computerized equipment/machinery required in job duties.Ability to modify and adapt equipment/machinery in preparation for new product lines or mechanical processes.Ability to perform basic and complex mathematical calculations.Ability to hire, train, lead and evaluate personnel ensuring a competent work force to meet maintenance and production objectives in a cost-effective manner.Ability to collect and record data, preparing oral or written reports for management on the mechanical aspects of processing the product.Ability to effectively communicate/collaborate with corporate office management, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and other business-related contacts to assure efficient production.Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment/machinery and perform minor repairs of all new and current equipment/machinery.Ability to interpret and work from oral and written instructions.Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions related to liquid fractionation, separation, concentration, filtration, centrifugation and other related duties.Knowledge and ability to implement all safety techniques and mandated sanitary rules and regulations in accordance with established policies and procedures related to the operation of plant equipment/machinery.Sustained physical effort required to move through various work area; directing, assisting, diagnosing and monitoring work performance.Ability to effectively communicate with all personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and other business-related contacts.Ability to legibly document data for record keeping purposes.Ability to remain calm and professional.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities, such as engineering methods/techniques and current or future projects.Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.Ability to work daily and extended hours as necessary. Ability to be on call as needed.Ability to recognize food safety violations or product quality issues and resolve immediately or, if unable to resolve, notify Plant Manager and/or the Quality Control Supervisor.Ability to assist with special or ongoing projects or other work-related areas as instructed by the Director of Operations.Ability to handle materials in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.Ability to learn, understand and operate utilizing Good Manufacturing Practices with established procedures and detailed documentation requirements.Ability to operate all necessary plant and office equipment required to accomplish job duties, such as computers, phones, fax machines, etc.Moderately computer literate with the ability to learn/use software such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint and relevant software packages.

BASIC MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job requires the mental capabilities to understand job functions, Standard Operating Procedures and safety procedures as required by job duties. The employee must be able to understand and follow established procedures for fractionation, separation, liquid handling, process and personnel flow, and be able to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures without deviation.  Understanding of written/oral instruction, record data and communicate with co-workers.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:

Working conditions vary, the major portion of the job duties occur in a controlled-temperature indoor environment (60-70 degrees Fahrenheit) in a manufacturing process area, including product handling, packaging and equipment cleaning materials. The manufacturing floor has controlled access, lab coats or uniforms and aseptic requirements (hairnets, shoe covers, gloves as necessary). There will be exposure to many different chemicals used during processing and clean up, high noise levels, moving machinery/equipment, climbing on heights, moving throughout the building to different processing areas, some exposure to splashing liquids and dust, and concrete floors.
