The Maintenance Technician is responsible for plant maintenance and support of the equipment throughout the plant. Working in partnership with the Maintenance Manager, they keep the plant and its primary electrical and mechanical systems running. All procedures and practices used are grounded in standards, regulations and laws addressing food safety and food quality, as well as environmental safety in accordance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Job Description:

Summary:

Facility maintenance encompasses improving the utility of a building by regularly servicing capital assets, such as machinery, equipment and areas in or around a building, such as parking lots and hallways.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Ensures that all tasks and functions are performed in a safe manner and that expectations for quality are met throughout the production and packaging processes.Work all regular and overtime scheduled shifts.(Must be flexible to working different shifts if needed)Operate and maintain all aspects of the waste treatment building and associated processes (including, but not limited to, chemical applications, pump and motor function, proper recordkeeping, etc.)Ensure that the primary boiler, water heaters, water softeners, and associated equipment is functioning properly and in acceptable working order.Perform snow removal and also lawn care removal, Perform preventive maintenance on air conditioners and furnaces/heaters by changing filters. Change light bulbs/ballasts and replace ceiling tiles.Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.Fabricate, disassemble and assemble equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts.Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.Repairs or replaces defective parts.Lubricates and cleans parts.Initiates purchase order for parts and machines and creates and documents hours worked on applicable work orders.Performs all assigned preventative maintenance work orders in a timely manner on all equipment and troubleshoot/repair processing filling and packaging production equipment.Install, move, and relocate machinery/equipment according to blueprints and other drawings.Read and interpret blueprints and equipment manuals.All other duties as assigned by management.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of three to five years’ experience in waste water treatment role.Knowledge of troubleshooting wastewater systems if needed.Experience in inspection of all included above and the ability to make recommendations on the proper level of replacement and inspection.Ability to make recommendation on spare parts, lock-out tag-out, guarding, and the level of operator involvement for proper machine integrity.Need to hold a valid driver license and insurance.

Desired Qualifications:

Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP’s and SQF audits would be valuable.

Competencies:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
