Maintenance Technician
Manage all gauge activities including calibration, maintenance and repair. Ensure gauges, certifications and performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems.
Performance Expectations
Ensures operation of machinery, mechanical gear boxes, equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, spindle, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions. Maintains facilities CNC machinery (CNC turning, dials and transfer systems) to proper working condition. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance. Repairs and replaces faulty components by using hand tools. Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and welding equipment. Rebuild draw bars, Spindles, Gear boxes. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers.) Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building, mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts. Calibrates and repairs pneumatic systems. Replaces broken windows; repairs doors, door locks and closets; installs window blinds. Completes daily, weekly and monthly PM’s on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures. May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems. Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required. Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures on Plex system. Performs outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required. May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
Academic/Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent. Certificate of qualifications or certificate in a related field or equivalent working experience (millwright preferred). Basic welding skill for millwright Taken specific courses and knowledgeable in different controllers (i.e. Fanuc, Siemens).
Required Skills/Experience
Two or more years of skilled experience in maintenance or fully skilled in one or more trades (CET or industrial electrician). Advanced knowledge in troubleshooting servo motors, drivers, encoders, etc. Ability to read and understand all codes and regulations (Health and Safety, Electrical). Interpret and review schematic drawings of mechanical, structural, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to understand their operation and identify malfunctions. Ability to use specialized measuring tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, angle finders, feeler gauges and dial indicators. Ability to evaluate condition of parts and equipment. Assess feasibility of designs for small modifications to equipment and machinery, sometimes in collaboration with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to discuss work orders, equipment malfunctions and job task coordination with co-workers. Inform supervisors about work progress and seek guidance and approvals from them. Teach practices and procedures to co-workers, apprentices and clients. Ability to perform tasks independently under general direction. Also form teams with co-workers when necessary to install and overhaul larger pieces of equipment and complete industrial systems. Ability to lead and train other maintenance laborers. Possess knowledge on how to use computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining, such as AutoCAD to make small adjustments to scale drawings to reflect modifications to tools and equipment components. Maintain continuous learning by reading manuals and bulletins to stay up to date with new developments. Attend training workshops on new equipment and safety procedures as required. Ability to recover machines (e.g. what axis needs to be moved). Ability to use multi-meter for electrical troubleshooting. Able to answer 75% of service call without assistance.

Hours of work:
1st shift - 6am - 2:30pm
2nd shift - 2:00pm - 10:30pm
3rd shift 10:00pm to 6:30am
Shift premiums for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
