Job Description
This position carries out those activities required to maintain and repair facilities throughout Alaska as well inspection and repair of machinery and equipment within assigned facilities.
Responsibilities
Performs skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment including testing and replacing circuits, troubleshooting defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring.
Performs a variety of skilled building maintenance tasks including repairs to doors, windows, roofs, drywall, carpet, flooring and other building equipment and parts.
Constructs and assemble furniture and other wood and metal structures.
Install and maintains lock systems.
Installs and services standard plumbing fixtures, piping and drains and supply lines.
Paints, cleans and degreases as necessary walls, equipment and other surfaces.
Framing & finish carpentry repairs.
Hanging Cabinets, fixtures, pictures, etc.
Drywall installation/repairs and painting.
Carpet/tile installation/repair.
Concrete installation/repair.
Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
Operates a variety of equipment and machines including various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintains tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition.
Purchases when necessary equipment and materials; operate light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
May transport trash and waste to disposal area.
Other duties required to maintain and operate commercial or industrial equipment and facilities
Work will require use of ladders and high lifts
Work will involve night or weekend work
Updates completed maintenance tasks and inputs data into a computer maintenance management system.
Perform required administrative and documentation tasks.
Snow removal and other laborer duties as assigned.
Position requires travel by aircraft up to 75% of the time. Some overnight travel is necessary.
Must adhere to strict safety policies and standards.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Advanced electrical knowledge required with at least 3 years of directly related work experience.
Valid Alaska Driver’s License with three (3) years acceptable driving record to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is both indoors and outdoors. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and vibration.
Physical requirements:
The employee must be able and willing to fly in small aircraft
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Language skills sufficient to:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Math skills sufficient to:
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning abilities sufficient to:
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
Exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
