Position Summary
This position is responsible for installation, maintenance, and improvement of process equipment using machine repair and metal fabrication skills. Maintenance Technicians must be highly quality conscious, aggressively self-directed, motivated team plays and willing trainers – eager to gain and share new knowledge.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Using technical drawings and schematics, troubleshoot and repair complex process and facilities equipments (e.g., filter machines, packaging machines, scales, conveyors, compressors, generators, etc.). Use machine tools, welding equipment, and measuring devices to fabricate machine parts. Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks (i.e., cleaning, inspection and lubrication) as necessary, but routinely in cases requiring advanced technical expertise and knowledge of safety procedures (e.g., electrical cabinets, machine interiors, lock out/tag out, etc.). Thoroughly document maintenance activity using the maintenance database, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees (e.g., other maintenance techs, operators, engineers, supervisors, etc.), and properly utilize the maintenance inventory system. Champion process improvement in assigned areas by analyzing equipment maintenance history, identifying significant causes of waste, coordinating with appropriate employees to develop root-cause solutions, and providing maintenance assistance as necessary. Provide Preventative Maintenance support for plant and equipment. Repair and maintain items necessary to maintain process equipment in “Grade A” condition. Assist in day-to-day support of operators, adjustments, setups, and change over. Actively participate in the training of other maintenance techs Assist other maintenance techs as required. Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by OSHA, GMP, AIB, ISO and the department. Other tasks as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work in a self-directed manner
Must be able to communicate in English, as well as read, understand and follow work instructions as provided in the English language
Ability to follow, retain and communicate detailed instructions.
Must obtain lockout certification and be able to wear OSHA approved safety gear.
Proficient in electro mechanics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
Able to read and interpret schematics and drawings.
Advanced mechanical/electrical skills (PLC troubleshooting skills preferred)
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
Strong safety, quality and customer orientation.
Ability to manage time, organize and prioritize work effetely and efficiently.
Willingness to learn and improve personal, team and organizational performance
Education and Experience
5+ years of related maintenance experience and/or combination of work experience and 2-yr. post-secondary education in Industrial, Mechanical or Maintenance field.
Experience using e-mail, job databases and spreadsheets.
Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements and industrial workplace practices.
Working Conditions
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
Ability to work 8/12 hour work day.
Ability to work on ladders and lifts at a height above 20 feet
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally.
Ability to frequently kneel, squat, bend and stoop.
Ability to twist, kneel and reach overhead required.
Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, lifts, pallet jacks, etc.
