Kalispell,MT,is acity of approximately31,500 located intheheart oftheFlathead ValleyinFlathead County inNorthwestMontana.Kalispellresidentshaveaccesstoqualityschools,healthcare,shopping,dining,a11s,and entertainmentas wellas avariety of outdoor activities.Nearby attractions includeFlatheadLake,Glacier NationalPark, and Whitefish Mountain Resort.Other cities and towns within1/2hour drivefrom Kalispell include Whitefish, Columbia Fal1s, Bigfork, Creston, Kila, and Somers. *Job Duties:*The Maintenance Worker 1 position is part of theParks and Outdoor Recreation Division and a member of the regional maintenanceteam that includes the Regional Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Team Supervisor,MaintenanceWorkers1 & 2, and Groundskeepers.The position reports tothe Maintenance TeamSupervisor in anassigned geographic area andperforms a widevariety ofsemi-skilled or manual work.This may include repairing, maintaining, andimprovingexisting habitat areas and vegetation as wellasgrounds and facilities at stateparks, fishingaccess sites, wildlifemanagement areas, and administrativefacilities.Thisposition may be assigned tomultiple geographic units orbecalledupon to assist with, collaborate on, or share maintenance functions of another geographic unit as circumstancesrequire. EmployeemayactasMaintenanceWorker 2inthatperson's absence orserveaslead crewmember and regularly demonstrates independent decision-making and problem solving. Regional and site-specific variance may exist and other duties may be assigned. *_EssentialFunctions (Major DutiesorResponsibilities_**):*** * * • Operates equipment suchasmowers,poweredweedtrimmers, pick-ups, ATVs, chainsaws, power, and hand tools. • Perform basic repairs to building structures (includinghistoric preservation at certain locations) including windows, doors, floors, walls, fences. • Scrape, paint,stain or treat buildingandstructural surfaces includingwindows doors, picnic tables,shelters. • Install,repairandmaintainwood,steel,wireandothertypesoffencing,signs,posts,kiosks,etc. Performs landscaping activities that include mowing,tree pruning, hazardous tree/sagebrush removal, irrigationandgeneralcareandplantingoflawns,shrubs,andtreestoprovidethesitewithsafeandappropriate vegetation to reduce weed problems.This work includes the use of chain saws, pruning saws, mowers, tractors, weed trimmers and backhoe. • Assists with comprehensive weed control and maintenance including grounds, campgrounds, habitat/grazing areas, picnic areas, roads, trails, and parking areas; responsibilities may include specialized trainingand work in weed control, chemical use,hydrogeology,wetland management andpermitting. • Assists with weed maintenance tasks including with the County spray crews/ contractors while monitoringwork performed.Makessite assignments and sets priorities for work. • Gathersandremovesgarbage,debris,litterandperformsjanitorialand cleaningtasks. • Performsbasicpreventative maintenanceforequipment suchascheckingfluids,belts,hoses, and filters and notifies others when significant repairs are required. • Records and filespape1work associated with dailymaintenance activities,requestingsupplies andmaterials, and completingvehicle reports other personnel logs and timereportingwithin required timeframes. • Performs manual work toconstruct and/or repair property boundary fences, usingpermanentfences to minimize trespass by livestock. • Performsmanual work inmaintaining roads,culverts, andbridges byusinga variety ofheavy and lightequipmentsuchasbackhoes,dumptrucks,andhandtools. • Performs habitat developmentandmaintenance projectssuch astreeplanting, grazingprograms, mowing, farming, waterfowl nesting structures, and managementof irrigation systems. • Monitor FWP sites andmakes public contacts, documents incidents andevents related topublic safety, resource impacts. • May collect fees andoccasionally educate visitorsonrulesandregulations whereapplicable and report violations observed tosuperiors for follow up. • Mayevaluateandfamiliarizeallstaffonequipmentoperationandmaintenance. • Assistswithmajormaintenanceconstructionandstabilizationprojectsonsite. • Theemployeewilldeterminethecorrectproceduresto completeawidevarietyofskilled,semi­skilled or manual work repairing, constructing, and maintaining buildings, land, water, grounds, andrelated facilities. • May monitor maintenance needs for firesuppression and detection systems throughroutine inspection and periodic tests. Responds tomalfunctions. • May monitor maintenance needs on visitor center security system through routine inspection andperiodictests.
