Job Description 1. Respond to and abate various emergency situations at NYCHA developments. (i.e. fires, health hazards, elevator outages, power outages and flood conditions) 2. Access elevator motor rooms, elevator shops, basements, meter rooms etc. 3. Obtain parts, equipment adapting / fabricating parts, tools or equipment when necessary. 4. Shut down elevators, etc. to prevent injury or further property damage. (Open Hatch). 5. Assist Police, Fire Department, residents or other off-site development staff; taking steps necessary to abate the emergency. 6. Repair elevator motor room doors, locks and lighting within the motor room. 7. Repair motor room ventilation (fans, and electrical feeds or outlets associated with same). 8. Repair / install motor room lighting. 9. Repair elevator pit doors and locks, elevator access doors and locks. 10. Install elevator signage as needed. 11. Repair outside alarm bells. 12. Install fire extinguishers and tags in motor rooms. 13. Replace elevator vision panels on swing type hatch doors. 14. Assist ESRD teams as needed. LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A Motor Vehicle Driver's License valid in the State of New York is required for this position. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic, journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades, the mechanical trades, or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or 2. At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical, mechanical or construction trades in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education.
