Position Summary:

Performs semi-skilled and limited-skill work, and assists others in the performance of a variety of installation and maintenance tasks in several craft areas.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1.  Under direct guidance and supervision, performs semi-skilled maintenance, preventative maintenance (PM), repair, and remodeling tasks. Tasks include, but are not limited to, removing and replacing ceiling tiles and floor tiles, water cleanup (including the use of a wet vacuum), moving and relocating furniture, performing light carpentry work, repairing and installing sheetrock, painting, light electrical repairs, removing and installing water and air filters, removing and installing fan belts, removing, repairing, and installing plumbing fixtures and associated piping, removing and installing various lights and light fixtures, replacing electrical fuses, performing door maintenance including replacing doorstops, hinges, and other door hardware, and replacing baseboards and cove base. 
2.  Assists personnel in various trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and others) with the removal, repair, and installation of related equipment as assigned. 
3.  Performs building rounds which may include checking building equipment for normal operation, logging temperature and pressures (as required), and noting concerns and reporting findings to supervisor. 
4.  May be required to complete assigned work orders using the computerized maintenance manager system (CMMS) through personal computer (PC) and smartphone applications. Performs assigned tasks following university and departmental policies and procedures.
5.  Required to carry a university communication device as assigned and respond to calls during normal business hours. 
6.  This job classification is designated as "essential" at the UT Health Science Center at Houston.  In case of an emergency, "essential" positions are those required to sustain clinical services and/or are responsible for the protection of university assets. Personnel in designated  "essential" positions are expected to report to their designated work site during their appointed work schedules, even when the institution has been officially declared to be on "restricted access" or "closed" due to adverse conditions.
7.  Other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

Basic PC skills

Minimum Education:

Completion of 10th grade.  High school degree or equivalent preferred.

Minimum Experience:

One (1) year experience performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks as a helper to a journeyman or as a handyman in a general building maintenance environment. 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
