Purpose

To assist the security services shop with maintenance and repair work with the ongoing operations of the residence halls. Perform maintenance and repair tasks independently or may assist journey-level craft workers with work orders. Assist in providing a comfortable living environment for students in residence halls.

Responsibilities

Assist security service shop staff in the installation, repair and maintenance of all types of locking hardware, exit devises and low voltage access equipment. Assist security service shop with rekeying all types of locking hardware, work with master key systems, key cutting machines and key software.

Complete work orders provided by the departments supervisor or manager for residence halls and general building repairs. Communicate daily with supervisor and or manager on status of work orders that may need assistance from other trades. Sign out, track, and account for all inventory used and/or taken from the shop.  

Change power supplies, transformers, switches, outlets and perform minor electrical and low voltage (24V) repairs in the residence halls. Daily walkthroughs in mechanical rooms, checking access equipment power supplies and replacing as needed as well as distinguishing between different colored wires, using various tools, and equipment to complete tasks. Reporting any large issues to supervisor or manager that may need assistance from outside vendors.

Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.

Submit paperwork in a timely manner & participate in assessment development through-out the year. Pick up supplies and drive UT vehicle. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED

At least 2 years of experience in performing installation, operation, construction, maintenance, and or repair work in a field or fields related to the work performed.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two years of experience in electrical, and/or building maintenance and repair environment.

Experience in installing and repairing doors, door hardware, and exit devices.

Experience with installing and repairing low voltage access systems.

Experience with rekeying of commercial locking hardware.

Experience working with IC cores and Master key systems.

Experience working in facilities and/or maintenance at University of Texas at Austin.

Excellent communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and in a team environment.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$41,600+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift

Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. Workdays, area, and hours may vary based on the departments needs.
