Location: Miami, FL (In-Office-Hybrid Schedule)

Job Description:

We are seeking a Major Claims Specialist - Latin American Financial Lines to handle large and complex claims within our international claims portfolio, specifically focusing on the Financial Lines book of business written in Latin America from our Miami office on behalf of Navigators Insurance Company. You will ensure the proper servicing and settlement of claims within your designated authority while working in partnership with team colleagues and claims management. This role includes reporting on large losses, loss development, and loss trends, and providing technical oversight of product lines within your portfolio.

Responsibilities:

Manage claims for the Latin American portfolio, providing subject matter expertise.

Adjust and resolve claims to optimal resolution using creativity, technical skills, and sound judgment.

Recognize claims exposures and ensure prompt evaluation and reporting internally and externally.

Escalate claims to Senior Management and stakeholders as needed.

Act as the point person and technical expert for assigned product lines, liaising with stakeholders, attending UW/Actuarial meetings, providing claims portfolio reports/feedback, creating/implementing claims management solutions, assisting with policy wordings, and other portfolio tasks.

Report on large loss portfolios or lines of business, including preparing and presenting Watchlist reports, Line of Business Reports, monthly large loss updates, and ad hoc reports.

Assess and adjust claims in relation to policy coverage, ensuring accurate and prompt communication.

Maintain correct reserving and manage long-tail projects properly.

Appoint and control adjusters, solicitors, and other experts to ensure timely intervention and mitigation of claims.

Handle claims promptly, fairly, and with integrity in accordance with Navigators claims management guidelines.

Ensure all claims are diarized and managed proactively.

Identify and pursue potential coverage, liability, and quantum issues appropriately and expeditiously.

Maintain high standards of communication with claims management and underwriting to share information on significant claims and trends promptly.

Liaise with other departments, including Underwriting, Finance, Actuaries, and Reinsurance.

Attend market claim meetings as required.

Travel as necessary.

Liaise with Underwriters, brokers, and policyholders on claims issues to drive successful outcomes.

Provide technical support and training to junior members of the claims team.

Liaise with other offices as required.

Assist with reinsurance issues.

Assist with auditing of claims TPAs and external providers as required.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements related to claims handling.

Assist with Broker Engagement Strategy for LATAM in conjunction with the London team.

Assist with claims system enhancements and development for LATAM Financial Lines.

Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years of relevant claims handling experience.

College degree preferred.

Business-level proficiency in English and Spanish required.

Experience and technical knowledge of the financial lines Latin American market are beneficial.

Willingness to continue developing knowledge of insurance and related issues through formal and informal learning/exams.

Ability to prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines.

Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.

Ability to learn and understand FCA/PRA and Lloyd’s rules and guidelines.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$121,280 - $181,920
