MAMMOGRAPHER - Full Time

Under the general direction of the radiology department manager the Mammographer is delegated the autonomous authority and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties.  The Mammographer is responsible for the daily organization of activities in the Mammography department.  Communicates effectively and maintains a good work environment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mammographer:

Interviews the patient prior to testing and analyzes the patient’s general body size, physical condition, age and medial history to accurately apply Mammographic procedures; improvises positions and techniques accordingly. Sets, adjusts, and controls a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply ionizing radiation for mammographic examinations.Including both screening and diagnostic examinations in the radiology department. Assesses technical quality of radiographs before giving such to the Radiologist; performs retakes as necessary. Assists in the collections and documentation of data for the Bi-Rad report and for the FDA certification and MQSA inspection. Performs and analyzes quality control tests according to MQSA Protocol. Documents appropriate patient information necessary for film interpretation and patient care. Assists the radiologist with invasive procedures that may include, but are not limited to: Stereotactic Localization, Core and Needle Biopsies and duct-o-grams. Answers questions and provides information to center customers, including nursing staff, physicians, and the general public on radiographic procedures, radiographic anatomy, and radiation safety practices. Troubleshoots technical problems and works with the vendors to resolve problems that arise. Maintains flexibility as department grows with willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department director. Demonstrates age-specific competency for the following groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Recognizes that many people seen are at a low point in their lives and shows compassion for them, even if it is only a smile. Completes all Annual mandatory education requirements (including hospital, department and job specific competencies). Attends the required number of staff meetings per department standard. Has documented proof of current professional licensure and/or all required certifications. Adheres to Patient Rights Policy and patient confidentiality standards. Is willing to do assignments, cross-training, or tasks within the scope of his/her job description, as asked by the manager, which are deemed necessary to meet the needs of the department. Adapts to change in a positive and professional manner. Promotes effective working relationship and works effectively as part of the department/team to facilitate the hospital and department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
