**Job Summary** The Mammography Technologist I is responsible for performing mammography procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. This position requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail to ensure high-quality imaging results. The Mammography Technologist I adheres to established protocols and safety standards, provide compassionate patient care, and work collaboratively with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate and timely diagnostic information. **Essential Functions** + Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration. + Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations and ensures continuity of professional care + Ensures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner. + Uses equipment safely, adhering to policy, guidelines and/or protocols set by the hospital and department. + Consults with radiologists to obtain additional mammographic images. + Ensures that all patient procedures are properly ordered, verified and acknowledged. + Offers, reviews and explains breast self-exam education materials with patients. + Utilizes proper positioning and technique to obtain high-quality mammograms and demonstrate use of adequate compression techniques. + Recognizes physician needs during a procedure and responds to them (FNA, needle localizations, biopsy). Understand and applies aseptic, surgical and radiologic techniques for mammography procedures. + Properly prepares the patient for invasive procedures detailing the exam and any post procedure instructions. + Demonstrates applicable knowledge of required ACR Quality Control Procedures and correctly performs QA testing and maintains records + Maintains storage of images as required by state or federal law. + Is responsible for inventory and control of mammography supplies in work area; may purchase supplies for the area of responsibility. Uses supplies cost effectively. + Obtains educational records for all interpreting radiologists. + Reviews all reports to ensure correct BIRADS categories and maintains all pathology reports (if applicable). + Communicates mammography results to patients in a timely manner within the guidelines set by FDA/MSQA. + Accurately collects improvement performance data as directed and develops and implements process improvements. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Complies with all policies and standards. **Qualifications** + Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology required + Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with registry in Mammography preferred + 1-3 years Clinical experience acquired working in Radiology required + 2-4 years experience as a mammographer in an acute care hospital setting preferred **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines + Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form + Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure + Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and external vendors + Ability to operate and understand radiographic technology and equipment/applications + Basic computer skills + Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times + Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all HIPPA requirements + Ability to use initiative and independent judgment + Knowledge of radiation safety and protection procedures **Licenses and Certifications** + ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with registry in Mammography preferred required and + BCLS - Basic Life Support required Equal Employment Opportunity This organization does not discriminate in any way to deprive any person of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the status of any employee because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or military or uniformed services, in accordance with all applicable governmental laws and regulations.
