Summary :The Mammography Technologist, under direct supervision, performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients. Performs screening exams, diagnostic exams, and interventional procedures.

Job Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Applies critical thinking to perform breast imaging procedures using proper technique and positioning in accordance with the digital mammography quality control manual.

Is responsible for quality control tests in accordance with the digital mammography quality control manual. Records and interprets the results.

Is accountable for Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)/Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspections and American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation.

Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy or procedure including proper image management and accurate documentation in electronic medical record.

Properly uses, maintains, and cleans equipment.

Promotes patient privacy, comfort, and education regarding the exam.

Provides practical instruction for students and other health care professionals.

Practices safety at all times, which includes adhering to ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles for proper radiation safety for team members and patients using mobilization and immobilization devices, following safe patient handling practices, following infection prevention practices (proper personal protective equipment), and following hand hygiene to comply with government agencies or other regulatory bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

40 hours documented training hours specific to mammography by qualified personnel

25 mammography examinations under direct supervision by qualified personnel

8 hours initial qualifications training for each modality (2d, 3d)

Graduate of an accredited radiography program

High School diploma or GED preferred

Must be 18 years of age • Perform a minimum of 200 mammography examinations in a 24 month period

Minimum of 15 hours of Continued Medical Education (CME) related to Mammography in a 36 month period

American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)

Mammography Certification with the (ARRT)

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Wisconsin license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance

Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock

Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents

Occasional high noise level in work environment

Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients

Use of computers throughout the work day

Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers

Repetitive motion of shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands while scanning patients.

Frequent sitting with movement through department/hospital
