Management Accountant

Downer Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Management Accountant to join. If you have strong management accounting experience, preferably with exposure to IT finance, along with a passion for business partnering and working in a fast-paced environment, then we would love to hear from you!

This is a permanent role requiring 5 days a week in the office, located in North Ryde. You will be working within a collaborative, close-knit team.

About Your Role

In this role, as a business partner, you will provide critical financial support to the Downer Digital IT function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and cost analysis. You will collaborate closely with the Finance Manager and IT leaders to deliver actionable insights to optimise IT spending, track project performance, and align financial strategies with IT objectives. 

Your role is pivotal in enabling data-driven decisions for IT investments, driving operational efficiency, and fostering transparency across technology initiatives.

Responsibilities will include:

Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis, CAPEX/OPEX tracking, and KPI dashboards. Support the IT recharge process, ensuring accurate cost distribution. Collaborate with IT stakeholders to validate financial data, track project expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range plans for IT initiatives, aligning with organisational priorities. Assist in internal and external audit processes, including documentation of controls and reconciliation of intangible assets. Proactively identify financial risks (e.g. budget variances, compliance gaps) and escalate issues with mitigation recommendations. Serve as a key liaison between IT teams, corporate finance, and the Finance Manager, facilitating clear communication of financial performance.

About You:

You are a proactive team player who thrives in a collaborative environment. You are adept at analysing complex financial information and transforming it into clear insights. Your ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders will be crucial to driving success in this role.

You will also bring with you:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business. CPA/CA equivalent certification. 3+ years of experience in management accounting, preferred with exposure to IT finance, project accounting, or technology sectors. Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle JD Edwards) and advanced Excel/Power BI for financial modelling and reporting. Strong understanding of management accounting principles, CAPEX/OPEX frameworks, and project finance. Experience with process documentation and improvement.
