The Maine Department of Marine Resources is seeking a qualified candidate for a Management Analyst I position based out of Augusta to provide critical accounting support for the department.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:Performing administrative accounting support services requiring a solid knowledge in bookkeeping principles and practices and aiding internal and external vendors. Responsibilities require working in a team environment while using independent judgement, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied financial matters. The duties and responsibilities include reviewing, revising, verifying and/or adjusting financial documents; researching, compiling, analyzing complex information to reach a conclusion and make recommendations; advising others requesting technical assistance; applying to routine individual cases an explanation and interpretation of applicable rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes, and/or documentation requirements.
Typical Job Duties Include:Thorough review and entry of Procurement documents into the Advantage System. Notifying the department’s Financial Analyst of allotment issues; requesting Budget and Financial Orders. Overseeing the RFP process. Acting as a liaison between Procurement Services and Department staff. Serving as an Agency Travel Coordinator. Supporting assigned Bureaus by reviewing, coding, and processing accounts payable/receivable documents, travel requests and third-party travel reimbursements, contract payments, procurement card invoices, and performing billing audits.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of Generally Accepted Account Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and agency accounting systems, procedures, and structures; knowledge and experience of bookkeeping principles and practices; ability to accurately verify, code, compute, and reconcile data; ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting and financial reports and statements; ability to organize and maintain computerized and/or manual files.
There will be some remote work opportunities with this position following DMR’s Telework Policy and with management approval.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Six (6) years of education, training, and/or experience analyzing, evaluating, and/or developing improvements to organizational and/or managerial systems, programs, and practices.
Preference will be given to applicants with the following:Excellent computer skills (Word and Excel). Proven attention to detail, coding, and accurate data entry. Background that includes general accounting experience in general ledger and reconciliation methods.
