Position: Manager, Corporate Accounting
Job Description:
The Manager, Corporate Accounting is responsible for executing general accounting processes for several critical areas for the business including transforming the processes for journal entry preparation and/or approval, account reconciliation preparation and/or approval, month-end close procedures, and consolidations across multiple divisions, departments, and cost centers. This person reports to the Chief Accounting Officer, CAO, and coordinates their activities with the daily activities of the accounting team to improve the accuracy and speed in which we record financial transactions generated by business activities. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with a proactive and analytical mindset.
The Manager, Corporate Accounting (Projects) supports accounting leadership by assisting in any and all needs of the department. The Manager works closely with Partners in the organization in analysis and in development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls. The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Lead accounting integration efforts with the help of the CAO and others Develop and implement internal controls over financial reporting Provide oversight and leadership, including functional advice and training, to staff and senior team members Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close functions, including but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis Use financial and accounting experience and acumen to analyze and interpret data to make any recommendations on possible courses of action as appropriate Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded with sufficient documentation to support the business purpose of the transactions Review and enhance the monthly balance sheet account reconciliations on an ad-hoc basis and assist staff in researching differences Drive standardization across financial processes of the company and/or divisions Coordinate with department management to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures; recommend improvements to policies as appropriate Provide timely and accurate financial information and analysis to support both internal and external reporting Support corporate financial reporting as required Ensure change directives are implemented at the shared services center Understand and execute internal controls related to accountabilities; proactively seek opportunities to strengthen internal controls Support external and internal audit requirements Partner with Operations, Finance, Corporate, and/or Sales Finance groups to ensure that the business accounting needs are being met Support regional management with financial analysis as required Ensure agreed upon Service Level Agreements are met Other duties as assignedQualifications:
BA / BS degree in accounting or finance Professional accountancy certification (or working toward certification) such as CPA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA is preferred 5+ years of experience in an accounting function Demonstrated leadership skills Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills U.S. GAAP technical accounting background Experience with SOX compliance is preferred Experience in a shared services or logistics environment is preferredForward Air is an Equal Opportunity employer.
