Manager, Brownfields Redevelopment
Title: Manager, Brownfields Redevelopment Department: Center for Community Systems Reports To: Director, Environmental Services Position Type: Staff Position Summary: The Manager, Brownfields Redevelopment will provide technical assistance and expertise to communities who have brownfield challenges and need guidance in investigation, cleanup, and redevelopment of their brownfields. This role will also manage a staff of Brownfield Redevelopment Specialists that support technical assistance tasks and events. Essential Functions: -Provides technical assistance to municipalities and nonprofits in the cleanup and reuse of their contaminated sites. This requires understanding of the brownfield redevelopment process in relation to other topics such as state regulations, environmental health and safety, infrastructure, economic development, social impacts, open space, resiliency, etc. -Assists communities in: understanding basic brownfields redevelopment concepts; navigating the brownfields regulatory process; identifying funding sources; understanding technical and scientific reports and data; and engaging the community and partners in this process. -Plans and conducts brownfield engagement and educational events (workshops, seminars, webinars, bootcamps, conference sessions) -Manages staff who provide one-on-one technical assistance to government entities, community organizations, and non-profits throughout the US. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. -Coordinates the schedules of the Brownfields Redevelopment Specialists to ensure one-on-one technical assistance is being fairly distributed to every government level, community type, population type, and nonprofit across the Center’s designated geographical assistance region. -Contributes content for websites, newsletters, and educational tools on brownfields and brownfields-related topics. -Maintains an organized record of assistance activities for inclusion in required program progress reporting. -Performs other duties as assigned. Prerequisite Qualifications: Education Requirements: -Bachelor's degree or master’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, or other relevant discipline Experience Requirements: -5 to 8 years. Technical Requirements: -Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and/or state brownfield programs and environmental regulations. -Ability to read and understand environmental and/or planning documents, and mentor others on technical comprehension. -Familiarity with the challenges affecting redevelopment and revitalization projects. -Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. -Experience managing or mentoring staff. -Possesses strong public speaking and relationship building skills. -Possesses strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. -Familiarity with identifying and utilizing available brownfield related data sources (i.e., NJDEP DataMiner). -Ability to present technical information to the public in plain language. -Effective written and verbal communication skills. -Excellent computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, and Adobe. -Experience in real estate and/or public health assessments a plus. -Interest in social equity in redevelopment. -Fluent in Spanish is a plus. -Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. -Applicant must live in NJ. At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position. Bargaining Unit: Non-Aligned Range/Band: 12 Salary Information: In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is $92,000-$100,000 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
