What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Accounting and Reporting, the Manager, Capital Accounting will manage the accounting, relevant policies, componentization, audit, controls, project close out (creation of assets from assets under construction), asset disposals and financial reporting processes of the organizational assets (both WIP and Commissioned Assets).
The Manager will support the capital delivery teams by being the subject matter expert in accounting, capitalization determination, asset componentization, financial controls and financial reporting. The Manager will work directly with the Capital Finance and Project Management Offices ensuring compliance, accuracy, completeness and integrity of accounting data and reporting requirements adopted by the GTAA. The processes to capitalize and manage WIP should be efficient given the magnitude of LIFT.
As a Manager, Capital Accounting, you will be responsible for:
Preparing monthly internal reports, supporting documents, and adjustments recommended for manager’s approval. Performing month-end closing of purchasing and inventory sub-ledgers. Preparing month-end journal entries and managing general ledger transactions related to the month-end closing process. Preparing quarterly and annual audit documentation, reports, and schedules, while working directly with external and internal auditors. Developing standardized fixed asset componentization practices and communicating those practices to the PMO offices. Establishing procedures and formalizing reporting to enable reviews on asset lifecycles and the useful lives of fixed assets. Working directly with both internal and external auditors. Formulating policies, procedures, and an internal control framework for Fixed Assets. Ensuring ongoing compliance with policies, procedures, and internal control practices. Reviewing business cases to determine the impact on current Fixed Assets. Monitoring external developments and legislative accounting requirements, translating them into policy for continued compliance. Collaborating with Finance and stakeholders to develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls for Assets under Construction, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness under IFRS. Managing the capitalization policy and establishing criteria and interpretation for capitalization under IFRS. Developing an effective audit plan of spending to ensure compliance and alignment with internal accounting policies and legislative accounting requirements. Being accountable for the development and accuracy of capital reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards, including drafting note disclosures and other management reporting of fixed assets, depreciation, and components of assets under construction. This is the role for you, if you have:
A post-secondary degree with a concentration in Business/Commerce, Accounting, Economics or Finance Completed CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) 5+ years’ experience in demonstrated experience in financial reporting for public accountable enterprises and internal controls over financial reporting. 2+ years’ experience in people management Prior industry experience (aviation, transportation, etc.) in a financial context (preferred) The ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security ClearanceKnowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
Excellent, analytical, written and verbal communications skills with a strong experience of stakeholder management and customer/client focus Very strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to build sophisticated financial models and conduct sensitivity analysis Well-developed problem solving and financial analytical skills with a proven track record of delivering accurate results on a timely basis Ability to assess and understand current and future business requirements and extrapolate financial impacts of these initiatives Familiarity with Financial ERP reporting systems such as Oracle, Hyperion/Essbase, Project Management Software and fully proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel model building functionality and development High level of competence with respect to developing quality presentations via PowerPoint Ability to present complex information professionally in a confident, clear and concise manner Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy along with a capacity to be proactive is essential for success in this role An effective trainer able to provide required training when skill gaps are identified Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a dynamic fast-paced environment Ability to drive key process improvements and effectively manage priorities and ambiguity Strong management, leadership and organizational skills, with experience working cross functionally in a complex environment
