A Clearance Manager handles all clearance matters for the animation studio including but not limited to: motion picture, television, direct-to-video, live stage, location based entertainment, theme parks, publishing, online and related marketing, editorial, publicity, advertising and consumer products.

Job Description“What would you say you do here?”
Responsible for legal clearance of assigned feature films, television series and subsequent franchises from pre-production to release which includes: marketing, promotional, editorial, direct-to-video, web series, live stage, location based entertainment, theme parks, publishing, titles and social media content
In-depth legal analysis of clearance issues as they arise
Daily liaise with productions, as well as many other departments across the company, for multiple projects, prioritizing and meeting deadlines concurrently
Extensive research on trademarks, copyright, titles, fictitious characters/locations and artwork designs
Indexing, tracking and record keeping of each production's artwork and other media materials
Careful analysis and record keeping of rights issues and acquisitions
Review of all stages of artwork including stills, storyboards, animatics and locked pictures.
Advising production on clearance issues on strict deadlines
Detailed report on all script drafts. Record and file management of all drafts throughout the life of a project
Flagging and tracking concerns regarding Standards and Practices, as well as cultural sensitivity issues, foul language and violence as deemed appropriate for target audience
Manage advertising, promotions, marketing and consumer products restrictions for each production
Review of credits for continuity, accuracy and clearance
Contacting third-party companies for rights and permissions requests
Licensing stills and clips via third-party vendors, obtaining appropriate releases
Reviewing and flagging lyrics and music cues for music clearance
Review of our intellectual property for licensing purposes, handle requests from outside inquiries
Review and analysis of parody and fair use
Editorial Research and analysis for Marketing content, consumer products
Title clearance which includes extensive trademark research
Review marketing materials such as trailers, promos, DVD content, bonus material, etc.
Facilitate clearance process details to all production teams at the beginning of production to inform and advise of various clearance procedures and reinforce importance of communication throughout the production process

Qualifications“What do I need to have in order to do this job?”
Minimum 3 years of motion picture and/or television experience handling clearance duties. Animation experience preferred
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience required
Must be able to handle a fast-paced working environment with quick turnaround requirements and tight production deadlines
Must be highly proficient in Word, Excel, Google Docs and Gmail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
Possess strong research and analytical skills

Salary range: $70,000 - $95,000
