Manager, Disaster Recovery Services (Acting)

#LI-Hybrid

Contract Duration: Up to 10 Months

Reporting to the Director, IT Service Management, you will be a senior member of the IT Operations team, responsible for managing a team of disaster recovery professionals maintaining and improving the DR program, providing technical leadership and important domain expertise. This includes the coordination, developing and testing of the LCBO’s Disaster Recovery Plan.

You will support all activities necessary to recover critical systems as identified in the Business Continuity Plan to support business continuity. This includes leading 3rd party vendors and internal teams in the implementation and maintenance of the Disaster Recovery Plan. 

You will work with important partners, outsourced service providers, and technology vendors combining daily IT Disaster Recovery operations oversight and ITDR strategic planning to support LCBO’s overall resiliency strategy. This role is critical as any infrastructure operational downtime can lead to store delivery interruptions, product shortages at retail stores and retail store operation interruptions which affect revenue, customer service and organizational reputation. 

About the Role

Enterprise Disaster Recovery function – (30%)

Manage the enterprise-wide disaster recovery plan, maintaining viability of the plan and processes Be the technical subject matter expert for Disaster Recovery and Service Continuity. Provide DR leadership, advice, and domain expertise.Maintain the technical architecture of the DR plan.Explain Disaster Recovery concepts and strategies, and introduce new technologies, theories, and methods.  Encourage technical SMEs to consider Disaster Recovery when developing technical solutions.  Ensure understanding of IT Strategy and Industry Best Practices, and establish frameworks and methodologies for approaching assignments Oversee the work of all internal IT teams, including operations and business technology, with the planning and execution of disaster recover technology and processes 

Strategy & Planning – (25%)

Develop a strategic roadmap for Disaster Recovery technology Accountable for ensuring LCBO’s Disaster Recovery Plan is current and maintained Manage the partnership with the architecture team to develop Disaster Recovery infrastructure architecture documentation Develop and deliver business cases for IT Disaster Recovery programs and supporting peers in other IT groups with their business cases Work with finance and accounting and PMO on IT financial forecasting. Stay current on latest technology trends as they pertain to Disaster Recovery and establish a technology evaluation rhythm based on upcoming solution needs.Be solution focused when working with both Internal IT associates and business associates. 

Leadership & People Development (20%)

Provide ongoing training, mentorship and support to departments and promote corporate awareness of the DR Program.Establish expectations of performance for 3rd party partners to ensure they are meeting LCBO’s support requirements and Service level agreements. Organize and manage the activities and staffing requirements of the department; review employees’ status change recommendations; lead selection committees and select candidates for onboarding.Provide direction and coaching to the department team, drives resource and capacity management to support projects and distribution of assignments.Lead the development of training and succession plans and seek input to enhance technical, analytical, and business capability across the team.Stay informed about new developments and technologies related to disaster recovery and business continuity for potential inclusion in the DR plan.

Testing (15%)

Manage the successful planning, execution, and closure of multiple DR exercise projects throughout the year.Ensure BCPs and DRPs are valid and viable through regular testing and evidence is maintained to provide assurance of resilience for business continuity risks.Work with IT leaders to document end-to-end processes and identify critical points of failure.

Documentation (10%) 

Manage design and implementation of DR Documentation system  Oversee the development of well-defined DR plans, ensuring it is documented and reflects current conditions including from an IT infrastructure recovery standpoint Ensure all DR documentation is created following LCBO’s documentation policies, procedures, and standards. 

About You

Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field or equivalent job-related experience Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) 3 – 5+ years of a progressive experience in Disaster Recovery Planning3+ years of Business Continuity planning experience Must have experience with IT Architecture and latest technology Must have experience managing budgets, forecasts, project schedules and leading associates within a variety of projects essential to the job. Experience with the following technologies: Enterprise Storage Servers, Virtualization, Middleware, and DB – Medium to Large Enterprise experience with server hardware technologies, converged infrastructure, VMware, VDI, Linux, AIX, Windows Server, Middleware technologies Wi (e.g. JBOSS, Informatica, WebSphere.) SQL, Oracle, No-SQL (Ie. Couchbase, Cassandra), IBM Storage, NetApp, Purestorage, and COHO Storage Medium to Large Enterprise experience with data center operations, colocation providers, public/private cloud Advanced understanding of Disaster Recovery Planning and governance frameworks along with best practices. Able to work with all levels of management, including senior leadership Great presentation and able to assemble presentation decks that can be used with both senior management and business/technical teams IT Enterprise Architectural experience having incorporated disaster recovery strategy into IT Enterprise.
