ABOUT THE ROLE:

The drafting group creates the designs,  and construction drawings  based on engineering data necessary to guide our production teams to manufacture industry leading homes and components for our customers.

 

The Corporate Drafting Manager oversees the drafting team at the  corporate level, ensuring that all drafting is done in accurately, completely and in conformance with code requirements. The manager is responsible for a large team and spends the majority of their time planning and forecasting workflow as well as and directing, coaching and developing the team members.

 

This Drafting Manager is also responsible for understanding of internal drafting software programs and working with our Engineering IT team to troubleshoot and improve our drafting and workflow systems. He/she is accountable for mapping, documenting, reengineering, quality assurance, staffing, metrics, controls, risk identification, and service level expectations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates with sales, design and other departments to oversee the gathering of specifications necessary for all engineering and drafting requirements. Coordinates drawings with other drafters involved in common projects to ensure projects are completed in a timely organized manner. Supervises and coaches lead draftsman and draftsman ensuring their engagement and development. Keeps abreast of current architectural standards and other engineering tools and techniques to ensure the efficiency of the overall engineering and drafting process. Manages project priorities to meet shifting timeline needs. Identifies and calculated cost savings in the design and engineering of houses. Ensures accurate, timely preparation of the most complex engineering construction documents for a factory assembly line. This will include designs and specifications of floor plans, floor framing plan, elevations, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, roof framing, DWV isometric, cold and hot isometrics, and energy systems in accordance with manager’s directions, instructions, design concepts, and sales orders. Ensures maintenance of generation of floorplan approval documents and submittals. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of six (6) years of architectural design experience is desired. Drafting experience in the manufactured home business is expected, but not mandatory. Proficiency with architectural desktop software such as AutoCAD preferred. CAD certificate from trade school or equivalent preferred. Note that some locations do not use architectural desktop software while some locations require AutoCAD proficiency. Working knowledge of wood construction systems designs. Understand building Codes for both HUD and MOD specifications. Ability to research construction codes and references (IRC or IBC). A very solid residential plumbing and electrical knowledge. High School diploma and formal drafting or engineering certification or bachelor’s degree.  Math skills to include a solid understanding of geometry and trigonometry. Proficient in Microsoft office tools (Outlook, Word). Must be able to effectively coach and develop other employees. Must be able to work across organizational teams to facilitate common understanding and coordination to achieve common goals. Must be able to perform work on a timely schedule while working as part of a tight-knit design team. Ability to work additional and/or alternative hours depending on deadlines and company needs Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Self-starter with strong work ethic. Ability to work in a complex deadline-oriented environment. Excellent mechanical aptitude. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and guidelines in order to work with minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task. Ability to keep abreast of current CAD standards to maintain drawing and bill of material development process.
