Manager, Dry Dock Occupational Health & Safety

We’re looking for an amazing Drydock Occupational Health and Safety Manager to fill this role. This is a hybrid, in-office role. You’ll work in person in our Seattle or Miami office Tuesday to Thursday each week. You’ll be responsible for overseeing and supporting Occupational Health and Safety operations for Holland America Line and Seabourn vessels during drydocks, major retrofits, and maintenance periods. This includes ensuring that ships undergoing drydocks are appropriately manned to maintain overall safety on board. The role involves preparing, training, and overseeing contractors hired by the company, ensuring compliance with both Company and Yard safety management systems. This position will be required to participate at all Holland America Line and Seabourn dry docks / wet docks and requires extensive domestic and international travel. Is this you? **Responsibilities** + **Prepare Dry Dock OHS Program:** Develop and implement a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety program specific to the drydock, retrofit, and maintenance periods. This includes coordinating safety protocols, reviewing potential risks, and ensuring compliance with both internal and shipyard safety management system. + **Collaborate with Dry Dock Planning Manager, Ship’s Superintendent, and shipboard leadership:** Work closely with the Dry Dock Planning Manager, the ship's superintendent, and the Technical Director to integrate safety protocols into the overall drydock planning process. Ensure that safety is a key focus in all stages of the project, from planning to execution. + **Develop Training and Orientation Materials:** Prepare OHS training materials and organize orientation and familiarization sessions for all dry dock personnel, including contractors. Ensure that all team members are informed about the ship-specific safety protocols during drydock. + **Coordinate with manning for Personnel Support:** Work closely with the manning department to ensure that sufficient safety personnel are available during drydock and maintenance periods. Oversee the deployment of safety staff and manage contractor involvement to maintain a safe work environment. + **Monitor Permit-to-Work System:** Oversee the permit-to-work process during dry docks / wet docs, ensuring that all work conducted during drydock periods follows proper corporate and shipyard specific safety protocols. + **Monitor Injuries, Risk Assessments, and Investigations:** Track injury reports, assist in conducting risk assessments, and support injury investigations during drydock operations. Ensure that corrective actions are implemented and shared across the fleet to prevent future incidents. + **Produce Follow-Up on Lessons Learned:** Create post-drydock reviews and reports highlighting lessons learned to continuously improve OHS processes. Recommend updates to procedures and share best practices across vessels to enhance safety in future drydock operations. **Requirements** + Bachelor’s Degree - Nautical Science. Deck or Engine License or equivalent maritime certification, safety, or compliance related experience. + Minimum 5 years of maritime industry or seagoing experience as Deck or Engine Officer. + Minimum 5 years of safety or compliance related maritime experience. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably in the maritime or hospitality industry. + Knowledgeable in Passenger Shipping Operations preferred. + Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar OHS certification is highly desirable. + Effective oral & written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills + Ability to present to Leadership, to aid in management decision making + Must have the ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all departments and employees in a highly diverse environment. + Ability to travel domestic and international 50%+ of the year. + Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired.
