This position is employed by Airbnb Inc., however the role will provide direct support to Airbnb.org, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on emergency response and provides temporary housing for people in times of crisis. Airbnb.org is governed by an independent Board of Directors and its mission is to provide emergency housing in times of crisis. From Australia to France, hosts have offered to open up their homes and helped provide accommodations to over 200,000 people. The Difference You Will Make:

The Manager, Emergency Response Operations is a critical player in our global emergency and disaster response efforts. You will support a dynamic team dedicated to providing immediate housing solutions for survivors of natural and man-made disasters, regardless of location. This role focuses on increasing operational efficiency and scaling our impact while collaborating closely with internal and external partners.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with Operations, Strategic Partnerships, Marketing and other teams to ensure a seamless, multi-faceted approach to major global events. You will also be expected to help significantly increase the number of people we support and the speed of our response.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Emergency Response Operations, this position requires a demonstrated background in humanitarian and disaster response operations, strong leadership abilities, and expertise in building effective partnerships with nonprofits and government agencies. You’ll need to be an excellent problem solver, have strong strategic thinking skills and be able to deploy to the field on short notice to manage disaster response programs on the ground.

A Typical Day: 

Coordinate global emergency response operations focused on providing temporary housing for disaster survivors, including developing and implementing strategies, protocols, and evaluation criteria to quickly and effectively respond to global emergencies. Oversee diverse, simultaneous disaster responses, ensuring internal teams and stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout. Build and manage partnerships with organizations that will vet and support guests, while working with our Operations team to optimize housing supply, reduce costs, and maximize positive impact for those affected. Collaborate with the Strategic Partnerships team to unify efforts and amplify our reach in response to major disasters. Enhance our operational readiness during non-crisis periods by improving processes, advocating for new product features, expanding 24/7 global coverage, and increasing team capacity. Identify and reach vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by emergencies, ensuring inclusive and equitable access to housing support. Integrate best practices from experts and agencies, and cultivate relationships with government bodies and emergency management authorities in key regions. Deploy to disaster zones on short notice to manage ground operations, as needed.

Your Expertise:

8+ years of experience in US and international emergency and disaster response operations, with a focus on managing large-scale programs. Strong track record of building and maintaining partnerships with nonprofits, government agencies, and key stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple work streams in a matrixed organization. Long-term strategic vision combined with strong execution skills for near-term goals. Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across functions. Adaptability and ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Willingness to travel on short notice for up to 50% of the year, with the ability to remain flexible regarding the length of stays.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
