Manager, Engineering

We are looking for a Manager, Engineering to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location.

Your Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the engineering associated with assigned projects ranging from design and development to manufacture and test of new and/or existing product lines within the Defense Business Segment. Oversight and guidance to the engineering team/lead is expected to ensure quality decisions that balance the engineering efforts with business and project needs.

Responsibilities will fundamentally center on the management of engineering personnel. Skill set development, monitoring career progression and ensuring appropriate assignments for direct reports is required to facilitate continued advancement of the CW engineering work force. In addition to a strong technical aptitude, the Engineering Manager must have leadership skills used in guiding the engineering teams.

Your Challenge:

Serves as the manager of a specific area or function of the engineering unit

Ensures adequate resources are available for projects, standard tools are available to perform tasks, and creating and monitoring processes

Responsible for programming, executing, and supervising engineering design, construction, installation and/or ongoing engineering support of facilities, systems, and technical policies and procedures for the assigned engineering function

Coach and mentor direct reports for continued advancement of capabilities and career progression

Conduct periodic performance reviews of direct reports, providing constructive feedback and performance/development goal

Assign and manage design engineering teams to meet technical and project requirements on-time and within cost allocations.

Support technical interaction with customers for all aspects of a project, including customer meetings, presentations, and written communications.

Maintain close involvement with team and drive technical decisions as required to ensure sound engineering decisions in accordance with project needs

Review and approve engineering documents such as reports, letters and customer deliverables

Ensure Design Reviews are held for projects with design content in accordance with business processes

Support and/or lead proposal activities including market assessments, accurate engineering scope definition, risk assessment and proposal writing

Collaborate with EMD engineering management team in manpower assignments and engineering process improvements/implementation
• Ensure risk management efforts are employed on assigned projects by directing and overseeing the design engineering team’s activities
• Collaborate and actively engage with Project Management and Manufacturing to maintain awareness of production status, while managing the engineering team to minimize disruptions and actively pursue improvements

What you Bring:

Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred)

Strong technical aptitude in machine design, and a broad knowledge of EMD product lines

Minimum of ten years of engineering and leadership experience in a design and production environment is preferred

Demonstrated track record of sound and timely technical decisions

Understanding of Project Management tools and experience applying them to manage the cost and schedule aspects a Project’s engineering scope

Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating a technical team

Travel: 5-10% travel expected
