Manager, Engineering - RES Booking - External systems synchronization

Job Title

Manager, Engineering - RES Booking - External systems synchronization

Business Context

The Reservation area is the core element of many Amadeus products: it handles critical steps on trip reservation including booking, ticketing, and PNR (Passenger Name Record) management.

Within the RES division, our department Booking and Synchronization Management (BSM) covers a comprehensive range of features related to the booking of travels or ancillary services, be it online or offline, through EDIFACT or NDC (New Distribution Capability). We manage this entire matrix of orchestration processes, as well as all the corresponding representations in the PNR.

With the travel industry rapidly changing, we are involved in key projects this year for Amadeus, both on travel agency business, like NDC standard or the new Universal Distribution initiative (UDIP), and on airline business, with projects for Star Alliance or Saudi, or the transformation to the Offer/Order model (Nevio). Transversally, we are finalizing the migration to the Cloud, and we value continuous improvement as part of our core values, through SSI or other kinds of proactive maintenance streams.

About the team

Within BSM, the Reservation Data eXchange (RDX) team is responsible for the synchronization of the PNR with all external systems: other GDSs (Global Distribution Systems) & airlines systems, through TTY or NDC (OrderChangeNotif) connectivity. This synchronization happens in both directions, with external systems triggering a change that needs to be reflected in our PNR (TTY in / OCN in), as well as changes on PNRs that need to be communicated to external systems (TTY out / OCN out).

The team has the end-to-end responsibility of those components and includes all engineering profiles: PDAs (Product Development Analysts), Software Developers, QA (Quality Assurance) Engineers, and DevOps (Development Operations). The team members are involved in 4 different trains, covering Distribution, Airline IT, and Technical areas.

An upcoming challenge for this team is also the evolution of this very critical synchronization feature into the Offer/Order world (Nevio, UDIP). Creating the vision of what synchronizing systems will mean in the future, as well as during the long transition, will be key to ensure the team is ready to continue to deliver all the expected business value while managing the functional and technical debt imposed by this transformation.
