Manager, Fleet and Transport

Summary:

The National Field Response (NFR) team takes the ASPCA's commitment to animals to the very doorsteps where help is needed. The team travels from coast to coast responding to requests from law enforcement and animal welfare professionals with the primary goal of removing animals from crisis situations created by natural disasters, animal abuse, hoarding or neglect.

The Fleet and Transport Manager works under the direction of the Senior Manager, Fleet and Transport with a geographical focus on the Greater St. Louis metro area. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to manage the transport fleet and perform transport of animals or supplies during field operations and relocation efforts.  Additional responsibilities will include oversight of personnel at temporary operations and on transports and assisting with warehouse operations. As the Manager, Fleet and Transport, you will also support logistics of transporting animals or supplies, on the ground coordination, and safety during field operations.

Additional Information:

The schedule for this position will be Saturday-Wednesday, reporting to an office in Maryland Heights Mo. from 8:00am - 5:00pm, some holidays and extended hours may be required.Candidates must be based in Missouri or Illinois, and within a reasonable commuting distance to the Maryland Heights warehouse daily. 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Driving and Transport (40%)

Conduct safe, humane and cost-effective transport of animals, equipment and supplies, including handling and moving various animals, sometimes in stressful situationsFollow all safety protocol and SOPs in situations where transports take place during extreme weather eventsAbide by transport protocols including tracking route mileage, hours, and electronic loggingDetermine appropriate routes for safe transport of animals and support the Logistics Director in evaluating new routes as neededUnderstand and abide by Department of Transportation (DOT) inter-state driving lawsFollow all proper road safety rules, DOT requirements, and ASPCA transport guidelinesLoad supplies for transports and field operations

Staff Management & NFR Warehouse Operations (30%)

Management of on-sight staff including temporary personnel and contractors as neededOversee and support temporary staff at warehouseWork with the Senior Manager, Fleet and Transport in all operational aspects of the NFR Warehouse Oversee management of all supplies and equipment for the warehouse as well set up and logistics of new temporary operationsSupport inventory tracking, manage any purchases of supplies and generate supply lists for field or temporary shelter operations

Administration (30%)

Assist with all field operations as needed, including but not limited to logistical support, intake, shelter set up and breakdown at an operation or on a transportUse the Workday system to complete expense reports and entering timeComplete necessary driver records when doing transportsCreate protocols and Standard Operation Procedures under the direction of the Senior ManagerSupport Senior Manager, Fleet and Transport and Logistics Director as needed

Qualifications:

Must have a Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within the first 3 months of hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history. As part of the requirements of this role, must also pass a Department of Transportation Medical Exam and required Drug and Alcohol testing.Must have valid driver's licenseKnowledge and use of techniques for safe loading and transport of animals and suppliesWorking knowledge of Basic Incident Command Structure or equivalent command system and completion of /FEMA/ICS/IS courses and the ASPCA Webinar series within 30 days of hiringStrong communication skillsStrong organizational skills with strong attention to detailStrong computer/smartphone skillsProficient in use of Outlook OfficeAbility to manage multiple tasks efficientlyAble to maneuver various size trailers into tight spaces, rough terrain, and in challenging conditionsUse of two-way radio equipmentUse of (GPS) Navigation systemsWill be required to reach and climb stairs and a ladder to access supplies located on high shelvesAbility to push, pull and lift equipment and cratesDesired mechanical acumenInterest and passion for animal welfareMust be a self-guided, and highly motivated individual; ability to work with minimal supervisionFrequent travel required up to 40%Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 poundsMust be able and willing to wear protective equipment

Compensation and Benefits:    

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.       

For salary roles: The target hiring range for this role is $67,000 - $71,000/annually.

1+ year experience in animal handing desirable or willingness to complete an animal handling course within 30 days of hire, 1-year experience in emergency response situations preferred, Minimum 3 years professional work experience required
