Manager, General Accounting

Based in Calgary and reporting to the Vice President, Corporate/ Common Group Accounting, the Manager, Corporate Accounting is responsible for leading the team that supports the month end accounting, reporting and planning/budgeting/forecasting for ATCO’s Corporate entities.

Join our team to manage the month-end close process for numerous corporate companies, including generating journal entries, validating actuals, reconciling accounts, and reviewing results with senior leaders. In this role, you'll also report actual results to the Public Company Reporting team, ensuring intercompany transactions are properly eliminated and collaborate with the Accounting Standards team to ensure accurate accounting for complex transactions like Share based compensation, M&A and investments.

You'll also prepare the quarterly Business Unit package for the Corporate segment, develop the Corporate Business Plan, and monitor actual results compared to the Business Plan, updating forecasts as needed.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

Provide direction and guidance to the team in support of the responsibilities outlined above.  Manage the workload and work assignments of the team.  Assist and support staff on non-routine transactions and issues requiring resolution.  Ensure the consistent application of processes and procedures in compliance with all internal policies and financial reporting requirements. Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders including the Intercompany, Common Group Accounting, Treasury, Accounting Standards and Public Company Reporting teams.  Work closely with Senior Finance leaders to finalize Corporate deliverables.  Cultivate an environment of continuous improvement including identifying and implementing changes (people, process and/or technology) which increase efficiencies.  Lead a team with diverse levels of experience and backgrounds including junior Analysts and CPA students.  Develop highly skilled and well-trained staff to ensure operational excellence is continually maintained and with the ability to support a growing and changing company in a customer focused environment. Perform supervisory functions including interviewing and recommending new hires, providing or arranging training for the staff, evaluating staff performance and creating developmental plans. 

WHO YOU ARE:

Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Management or Business Administration Professional designation – preferably Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  Minimum 8-10 years of technical experience with some experience in a leadership role.  Proficiency in Oracle E-Business Suite of products including General Ledger (and related reporting capabilities) and Oracle FCCS.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.) Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated professionalism and work ethic Proven ability to contribute and work well within a team environment Mentoring and coaching experience
