Reporting to the Director, Legacy Properties, the Manager, Health and Safety oversees the Legacy Properties health and safety (H&S) program for ~30 closed mine sites across multiple jurisdictions throughout Canada and the USA. This role fosters a culture of H&S excellence, ensures compliance with internal standards and regulations, and provides strategic leadership.

 

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with the ability to prioritize, problem solve and a strong attention to detail. They will be adept at communicating and influencing a variety of stakeholders to ensure that everyone works safely and effectively in fast-paced, high-potential-risk environments.

 

This position is based out of Kimberley B.C.

Responsibilities

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures

Adhere to and sponsor safety and sustainability policies and procedures.

Design, implement, and continuously improve H&S programming to minimize risks, in alignment with corporate and regulatory standards

Collaborate, influence and mentor a multidisciplinary team of staff and contractors to ensure the consistent application of H&S policies, build hazard identification and risk mitigation capabilities across the team, and identify improvement opportunities

Supervise and mentor a team of H&S practitioners

Offer subject matter expert guidance on H&S best practices

Supervise H&S leading and lagging indicators and report on H&S data, performance metrics, and KPIs

Support incident investigations, recommend, and oversee implementation of, preventive actions to improve H&S performance

Develop and facilitate educational resources for H&S programs

Share learnings from internal and external incidents broadly across Teck, identify and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents

Stay current with industry best practices and innovation to continuously improve the Legacy Properties Health & Safety program

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience

Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation would be considered an asset

A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in H&S within industrial operations, preferably in mining

Proven experience leading teams of H&S practitioners, including direct leadership and mentorship responsibilities

Demonstrated success managing H&S for complex, high-potential work environments (industrial or resource industry), ideally including underground mining environments

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, ability to influence and resolve conflict with different stakeholders, including contractors, to ensure a culture of safety

Willingness and ability to travel frequently within Canada and the U.S

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with no restrictions

Salary Range: $132,000 - $163,000 

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
