Manager, Learning & Organization Development

We are looking for a Manager of Learning and Organization Development to join our Talent Management and Workforce Strategy team that focuses on attracting and retaining high-quality employees, developing their skills, and continuously motivating them to perform at their highest potential in the pursuit of achieving the University's mission. Reporting to the Director of Learning and Organization Development, this role will focus on developing strategies, policies, and processes for a portfolio of talent management projects and programs at Stanford. The role will play an integral part in helping to shape the vision and plan for learning and development program delivery, including building the infrastructure to support innovative enterprise level in-person, digital and blended learning experiences that leverage new and existing platforms and tools. This role will also lead a team of coordinators and work collaboratively with university stakeholders to create the conditions for communities of learning to thrive across Stanford. 

As a Manager, your responsibilities include:

Provide inspirational leadership to team members, setting clear goals and expectations while fostering a sense of purpose and enthusiasm. Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the team, encouraging a strong sense of ownership, experimentation, and professional growth. Navigate ambiguous and evolving environments, leveraging creativity and strategic thinking to create clarity and drive progress. Oversee day to day management and responsible for hiring and retaining staff, support team performance by providing regular feedback, and facilitating professional development through coaching and mentoring. Strategically manage and effectively allocate resources, including staff and budget, to meet team objectives.Utilize instructional and learning experience design principles to create engaging, outcome-driven in-person, blended, and eLearning experiences. Champion the use of digital learning platforms and tools to enhance accessibility, personalization, and scalability of learning programs. Develop pilot programs to test new learning approaches in order to scale successful programs in collaboration with partners and stakeholders in University HR and across Stanford. Develop project plans, budgets, manage vendors, design curriculum, manage communications. Assess the impact of programs, using data and analytics, to strategically inform continuous improvement and experimentation across the portfolio of programs.

A strong candidate for this position will be a self-starter with proven ability to operate effectively in uncertain or rapidly changing environments, using innovative thinking and problem-solving to design and implement impactful talent development programs that address organizational priorities and future workforce needs. They will have the ability to communicate and make the business case for new strategies and approaches to learning, use of technologies, and the impact of learning. And they’ll utilize their expertise designing, building, and delivering complex scalable enterprise learning solutions.

We are open to a hybrid work arrangement (a combination of onsite and work from home). The number of days may occasionally fluctuate subject to business need, but the expectation is that this position will be onsite a minimum of 2 days/week. The onsite work location is Stanford Redwood City Campus, 505 Broadway, Redwood City, California but travel to the Stanford Campus, Stanford, California will be required at times.

JOB PURPOSE:

Develop the strategy, policy, and process of one or more talent management projects and/or programs. Establish architecture of learning solutions and oversee the implementation of a portfolio of programs and initiatives.

CORE DUTIES*:

Provide thought leadership, advice and counsel on talent management programs to HR business partners and/or unit managers. Manage an existing portfolio of talent programs, processes, tools and frameworks with appropriate customization at the school/business unit level. Plan and implement new programs or tools as needed, including assessing need, managing stakeholder interest, developing project plans and developing budgets, managing vendors, designing curriculum, and managing communications. Negotiate cost and assure quality of vendor materials, capabilities , and end-to-end services. Develop and deploy measurement system to track and report progress on talent management projects and programs to university leaders. Make recommendations for new needed programs or tools. Provide coaching and/or facilitation support to program participants and campus partners.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience leading organization-wide learning programs, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Deep expertise and experience developing and implementing effective talent management solutions. Knowledge about talent management problems and practices; ability to advise and make recommendations to university and/or school/unit senior management teams. Strong program/project management skills and experience. Strong facilitation and/or coaching skills and experience. Demonstrated ability to establish a strong partnership with the senior human resources partners and other members of the talent management team, influencing across multiple stakeholder groups. Strong, fundamental skills in technology/platform supporting business operations and communications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort/file paperwork, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.

The expected pay range for this position is $142,300 to $158,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
