Job Summary: This role is in the Chicago-based Shared Services team with responsibilities that include general ledger processing and management of the monthly financial close process for all GWR properties; guides financial decisions; monitors, confirms, and reports financial condition; manages finance staff; achieves operational objectives. This leader will report to the the VP, Corporate Controller.
Responsibilities:
Oversee general accounting work for all GWR operating properties, including management of their monthly financial closeManage processes and staff to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including reconciliations and financial analysisDevelop and retain accounting staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employeesManage team performance through coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising job resultsFacilitate and drive process standardization, optimization, and consistent reporting and analysis of shared services activities for GWR properties; identify and implement changes to reduce cycle timeProduce and analyze weekly/monthly KPIs, dashboards and analytics to measure and improve performanceAct as Lodge Accounting point of contact for GWR properties for escalations and urgent matters related to general ledger / accounting processesMaintain, enforce and enhance GWR property processes, including streamlining and improving the quality of inputs to Shared Services processesGuide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and proceduresMonitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditorsMonitor the corporate and operational internal control environment to identify and remediate internal control gapsOwnership of sales & use tax filings, including keeping up to date with individual state and local tax (SALT) policy regulations Review fixed asset ledger inputs for each property with accordance of our Fixed Asset policyMaintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societiesProtect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidentialAssist with ad-hoc projects as they ariseRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and CPA certification requiredMinimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience, a combination of public and industry is idealDemonstrated expertise in general ledger accounting operational cycles, including ownership of closing processDemonstrated strong technical accounting knowledge, including US GAAPExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to work with all levels of management and employees; ability to adapt quickly to changing prioritiesHigh level of organization and ability to manage to deadlinesDemonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve and use technology to improve the efficiency of the teamDemonstrated proficiency in using accounting systems, implementation of corporate financial practices, and analysis of financial and operating information for management to facilitate decision-makingDemonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Willingness to work from our Chicago Corporate Headquarters, currently following a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule that is subject to changePreferred Qualifications:
