This position will be working onsite from Miami.    

 

Position Summary: 

This position plays a key role in the organization, leading the media relations strategy for N. America. The role is charged with leading and executing the PR strategy to secure maximum positive brand exposure of key messages for the Royal Caribbean brand, products and initiatives across target media to generate strong earned media in tier 1 titles with high editorial quality scores in line with the brand’s measurement KPIs. Focus should be in consumer and lifestyle media to reach new audiences.. In tandem, coverage should also be regularly secured across trade media to drive engagement with the travel agent audience and continue to demonstrate thought leadership in the industry. This team member should be a skilled, seasoned communications and public relations professional, capable of providing expert advice to senior executives, directing projects and project teams. Sound professional instincts, the ability to manage important internal and external relationships, and deep professional knowledge are required, since the team member will be the face and voice of the brand on important projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

· Manages and executes strategies to secure impactful media coverage for Royal Caribbean, subject matter experts, products & services, and events, including pitching and engaging reporters, facilitating media interviews and support for executives.

· Focused on the growth of the share of voice for the brand and monitor competitor PR in this arena and ensure that consumer and trade insights are at the core of planning and decision making.

· Ensure that KPIs are met from media exposure to brand engagement.

· Create and lead compelling PR campaigns that align with Royal Caribbean’s product strategy, sales objectives and the wider business objectives to achieve widespread coverage particularly amongst new to brand and new to cruise audiences

· Develop and maintain strong media relations (consumer, trade, cruise specialists and broadcast relationships) and deliver a successful program of media engagement throughout the year, including through events, ship visits and press trips.

· Oversees and manages significant communications programs, which may include promotions, press trips, press conferences, executive briefing.

· Manages and builds allies with diverse stakeholder groups, seeking alignment around any complex topic, anticipating and negotiating around any roadblocks.

· Provides strategic communication counseling and support to the sales and marketing teams.

· Manages media requests and act as the encyclopedia of the brand.

· Writes press releases, backgrounders, feature stories and speaking points, to name just a few.

· Manages direct reports and PR agency performance and effectiveness.

· Leads and coaches subject matter experts such as senior media relations professional, speechwriter, project manager, and other key contributors.

· Builds and maintains key professional relationships with significant media outlets.

· Directs the activities of external agencies and internal teams as needed.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills: 

· Bachelor’s degree in communications or like field

· 7 – 10+ years of PR experience in PR agency, public relations, journalism or corporate communications experience; travel industry experience is a plus.

· Proven experience in a strategic leadership role, managing numerous internal and external stakeholders.

· Excellent relationship builder – ability to create, foster and leverage relationships to achieve outstanding results.

· Experience with media relations and strong skills in pitching and comfortable reaching out to top tier media.

· Ideally experience of working both in-house and within a PR agency handling proactive and reactive press office function.

· Demonstrated success in planning and implementing integrated PR campaigns with a proven impact on the bottom line.

· Strong ability to interact with senior executive team and build effective relationships within the company, public, guests and media.

· Strong experience and knowledge as well as deep understanding of all internal and external communications strategies, tools, systems, and techniques.

· Excellent writing skills and a creative mindset – message creation experience a plus.

· Experience of managing relationships with a PR agency.

· Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environment.

· Strong planning capabilities to identify and prioritize communication strategies and activities as well as to meet the deadlines required to support communications and business needs.

· Ability to remain calm and non-confrontational regardless of the situation.

· Ability to build relationships, liaise and co-ordinate cross functionally across teams.

· Good presence – able to quickly gain the confidence of senior management.

· Ability to evaluate and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.

· Demonstrate the ability to quickly analyze situations and alternatives and make prudent decisions.

· Finger on the pulse – always up to date with trends, both inside and outside our industry.

· Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel as appropriate (domestic & international).

· Computer literate (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, email).

· Outstanding English language proficiency. Proficiency in Spanish desirable.

· Excellent research, written, verbal and presentation skills.

· Goal oriented and action-focused, practical, and self-disciplined.

· Effortlessly organized self-motivator with a wealth of creative ideas.
