This is a field-based position that is aligned with the US and Canada Regions (UCAN) under Worldwide Medical Affairs – Infusion Therapies and Technologies (ITT), Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools. This position provides Medical Affairs and Pharmacy expertise as it relates to sterile compounding technologies (e.g., Repeater Pump, ExactaMix, DoseEdge, and Abacus software), as well as compounding and reconstitution products, parenteral nutrition solutions, and oral syringes.
You will provide medical and pharmacy leadership across the nutrition and pharmacy tools portfolio through scientific exchanges, external engagement, advocacy for patient safety, and support of innovation and evidence generation. You will engage with key opinion leaders (KOLs) from organizations and institutions within the assigned portfolio and geographic regions. Maintain a deep understanding of the vision for the team, how it integrates with the rest of the UCAN and Global Medical Affairs Teams, as well as the commercial and research and development functions (R&D) at Baxter.
You will work closely with the UCAN Associate Director of Medical Affairs, Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools to provide support for the strategic vision of the Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools team, take on diverse projects and initiatives and provide education to internal and external stakeholders to support the team, broader Baxter missions, and ultimately improve patient safety and outcomes.
What you'll be doing:
The Manager, Medical Affairs - Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools serves as an up to date subject matter expert in the following areas:
Knowledge and understanding of all applicable regulatory requirements related to the preparation and management of compounded sterile preparations (CSPs) and parenteral nutrition. This includes USP Chapters and , State Board of Pharmacy regulations, Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act Section 503A and 503B, Joint Commission Medication Management Standards, as well as nationally recognized guidelines from organizations such as ASHP, A.S.P.E.N. and ISMP
The appropriate and optimal use of Baxter ITT, Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools products as well as competitive products
Pharmacy operations as they relate to the preparation and management of CSPs and parenteral nutrition solutions
The assessment of strengths and weakness of potential new products that could be added to the Baxter ITT, Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools portfolios
The evaluation of potential issues with existing Baxter ITT, Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools products
The Manager, Medical Affairs - Clinical Nutrition and Pharmacy Tools uses the above expertise to:
Establishing self with trustworthy and knowledgeable reputation and a source of scientific and medical information for the healthcare community
Provide medical and scientific expertise through scientific exchange, clinical/scientific support for Medical Affairs, cross-functional partners, and Baxter at large
Discover and identify key opinion leaders (KOLs) within assigned portfolios and territories alongside building and maintaining scientific relationships with KOLs across a variety of institutions and practice settings
Engage with KOLs on advisory boards, consultant meetings, and other scientific exchange
Build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including Pharmacy Supervisors, Managers and Directors, VPs of Pharmacy and Chief Pharmacy Officers to support Medical Affairs objectives and foster collaborative partnerships with Baxter
Conduct formal on-site pharmacy consulting engagements to help ensure appropriate and optimal product use in accordance with applicable regulations and guidelines
Create customer specific recommendations that enhance the safe, effective, efficient, and regulatory compliant use of products within established medication use processes
Provide accurate, timely and evidence-based responses to scientific matters and questions
Support and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams within strategic alliance including, but not limited to: Sales, Marketing, R&D and Executive Leadership Team initiatives such as internal training, evidence generation, KOL development, publications, new product development, product enhancements and commercial strategies
Report important medical and competitive insights to company stakeholders gathered from field-based activity and engagement and maintenance of up to date and high-level knowledge of therapeutic area, Baxter products, new and emerging areas of research, therapeutic issues and trends and the competitive landscape
Develop and deliver medical/scientific education in a variety of modalities and settings for healthcare professionals (HCPs) through on-site presentations locally, regionally, and nationally
Provide scientific support for additional activities such as medical congresses, advisory boards, training initiatives, and innovative approaches
Act as liaison between investigators interested in performing investigator initiated research (IIR) and independent medical education (IME)
Support initiatives related to patient safety and outcomes
What you’ll bring:
Registered Pharmacist (B.S. or Pharm.D.) with a minimum of 7 years of clinical and operational experience in an acute care pharmacy. Board certification strongly preferred.
Demonstrates a deep understanding of Baxter as an organization
Knowledge of the healthcare environment as well as academia and the medical community
Demonstrated understanding of operational efficiency, productivity, and safety drivers within the hospital pharmacy environment
Excellent matrix and influence management skills
Ability to research and critically analyze and communicate complex scientific and medical information and data in clear, concise manner
Excellent planning and organizational skills with high level attention to detail and accuracy
Articulate and comfortable with public speaking and teaching others
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical skills combined with proven business acumen
Demonstrated skills in inter-personal relationship building, networking and collaboration and teamwork

Must be willing to travel up to 50-70%
Preferred, but not required:
Prior hospital pharmacy management and/or pharmacy operations consulting experience.
Knowledge of the parenteral nutrition use process as well as parenteral nutrition compounding devices and solutions.
Knowledge of Baxter and competitive products, and their appropriate use in the medication delivery processes
Experience in clinical practice, research, and teaching in the academic pharmacy environment
A minimum of 3 years of Medical Affairs experience
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a base salary range of $120,000 to $165,000 plus an annual incentive bonus, commission target, and equity target (strike any, if not applicable). The above range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
