Manager, Neurodiagnostic Services
**Job Purpose Statement:** The manager is responsible for technical and administrative operations of neurodiagnostic services that operate 7 days per week and includes planning, operations, fiscal management, and use of resources necessary to care safely and effectively for patients and families while in a safe and clinically effective environment while adhering to all local, County, State, Federal regulations and compliance. Operational oversight, planning, development, and organization of daily clinical operations, facilitating program development for one or more modalities such as Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Long Term Monitoring (LTM), Intensive Care Unit Continuous EEG monitoring (ICU / cEEG), Epilepsy Monitoring (EMU), etc. Neurodiagnostic procedures are performed in all areas of the hospital, including acute and critical care, surgery, emergency department and ambulatory care clinics. **Essential Functions:** + Administrative and clinical oversight of neurodiagnostic services, including obtaining physiologic data from the central and peripheral nervous system; analyzing and reporting the results in a manner. + Responsible for developing and maintaining operational procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Establishes departmental goals and objectives. + Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. + Ensures staff adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets. + Maintains required records, reports, and statistics, ensuring documentation is complete and accurate in accordance with medical center and unit policies and procedures. + Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Neurodiagnostic department, ensuring that orders and procedures are being carried out to optimize patient care. + Oversight of revenue cycle: charge reconciliation, denial management, and charge capture process. + Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide appropriate and effective neurodiagnostic services to patients throughout the continuum of development from neonate to adult. This includes knowledge of growth and development, assessment of age-specific data, ability to provide age-specific care, communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific response to treatment, and the ability to involve the family in decision-making related to care. + Models and implements customer service standards in accordance with established programs within the organization. Promotes a positive customer service expectation and holds all employees and providers to the standards that are established for the organization. Implements process to assure high patient satisfaction and loyalty. **Quality Management** + Manages staff; implements standards related to patient care, physician/provider and nursing support and equipment usage. + Oversees quality assurance testing and monitoring of neurodiagnostic technology/equipment. Ensures compliance with internal policies and external regulations. + Develop and implement policies and procedures for daily operations. Partners with managers across the organization to improve workflow and the patient care experience. Maintains and shares knowledge of current techniques, industry advances, and regulatory standards. + Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Neurodiagnostic department, ensuring that orders and procedures are being carried out to optimize patient care. + Develop and coordinate formal training to instruct Neurodiagnostic staff on new technologies, techniques, and equipment. + Ensures development and maintenance of a comprehensive and interdisciplinary performance improvement plan within the department. + Ensures that employee practice meets safety and risk management standards and the legal requirements of licensing boards and regulatory agencies. + Actively prepares and participates in regulatory and compliance survey activities and maintains applicable standards providing meeting safety and quality standards. + Represents neurodiagnostic services on a range of initiatives, such as patient satisfaction levels, quality improvement initiatives, and testing procedure workflows. Keeps abreast of best practices in the field. + Demonstrates current knowledge of CQI principles, tools, and methods. + Assists in the assurance of compliance with all regulatory standards. Assists in developing and implementing compliance programs. Contributes to the ambulatory services Quality Improvement plan for the division which addresses all regulatory requirements and important aspects of clinic operations. Maintains a constant state of regulatory inspection preparedness of facilities through ongoing assessment and action in collaboration with hospital leadership. Assures that the clinic has the proper equipment, supplies and staffing for effective, efficient and safe operations. Collaborates with professional and support departments to assure the environment of care is appropriately maintained for services provided to patients. **Budget/Financial Management** + Collaborates with Practice Administrator in the development of department budgets; maintains department operations within budget, responsible for the monitoring of expenses and the reporting of variances. + Determines staffing patterns and monitors for compliance and adequacy to provide appropriate levels of service and budget constraints, or to identify additional levels as necessary. **Personnel Management** + Manages technical and administrative operations of neurodiagnostic services. + Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel action. + Directs staff and administers hospital policies and disciplinary action; develops standards, competency assessments, and performance evaluations to ensure consistency and uniformity of personnel management. + Plans, directs, implements, monitors, and evaluates the daily functions and activities according to defined standards that are consistent with the hospital’s strategic goals, mission, vision, values, and operating budget. Provides direct supervision to professionals or skilled technical employees. Ensures that staff has skills and abilities to demonstrate competent performance and progressive growth. + Identifies learning needs of staff and provides opportunities for development, including in-services, seminars, on-the-job training, committee, and project assignments; participates in staff development forums. + Maintains personal, professional, and institutional certification and regulatory requirements by attending conferences, committee meetings, personal development, and attending outside educational programs. **Program Planning and Development** + Incorporates the hospital’s strategic objectives, mission, and values into daily operations. + Identifies resource needs, operational problems, changes in technology, space allocation, and changing service demands consistent with hospital goals. + Participates actively in assigned committees and task forces. + Coordinates departmental technician intern/student program, including verification of contracts, correspondence, and scheduling; provides supervision of staff preceptors and preceptor development. **Other duties as assigned.** **People Leadership Responsibilities:** + Provides direct supervision to professionals or skilled technical employees. + Ensures staff adhere to defined internal controls and clinical standards of performance. Leads/participates in the selection and hiring of new employees. + Conduct timely formal performance appraisal of direct report employees. + Delegates responsibility and authority appropriately. **Financial Responsibilities:** Contribute to the management of annual operating and capital budgets. **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities** + Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills. + Clinical practice knowledge of relevant neurodiagnostic function(s) and applied background. + Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols. + Knowledge of relevant external regulations. + Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to compliance risks. + Effective written and verbal communication. + Ability to establish relations with physicians to support communication, consultation, and improvement activities that will result in enhanced operational and financial performance. + Ability to promote a constructive and positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist physicians, managers, and staff. + Ability to use appropriate organizational skills in setting priorities for work. + Engages other organization leaders and resources collaboratively to enhance the effective and efficient operational delivery of services. + Ability to resolve conflicts in a proactive manner that demonstrates a high level of customer service. **Minimum Education:** + Graduate from a 2-year Neurodiagnostic technology training program, accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Bachelor's degree in related area preferred. Must have prior equivalent experience/training. **Minimum Experience:** 3-5 years of applicable Neurodiagnostic experience incorporating Pediatrics and Supervision. **Additional Minimum Requirements:** + Registration from the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) as a Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG T.) + Certification from the American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) for Long Term Monitoring + Current American Heart BLS Certification Required **Physical Requirements:** + Sit: Up to 8 hours/day + Stand/Walk: 3-6 hours + Bend/Stoop: Up to 3 hours + Reach: Up to 3 hours + Rep Use of UE/Grasp: Up to 8 hrs + Lift/Push/Pull: 15 lbs + This job requires the ability to hear alarms clients and/or instruction.
