Manager, Nursing - OB/Gyn Maternity - Full Time - Up to $25,000 Sign On Bonus
The pay range for this position is $47.17-73.61. Position Summary: Responsible for the overall management, coordination, and direction of the nursing unit. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to collaboration with organizational leadership in support of the annual operating plan, hiring and retention of personnel, performance improvement activities, and participation on management team and other committees as assigned. Education, License & Cert: • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in Nursing preferred • New York State licensure as a Registered Nurse • Current BLS and ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months from date of hire. Experience: • A minimum of 7 years professional healthcare experience with 2 years in a supervisory position with progressive management responsibilities required. Essential Functions: I. Decision Maker A. Develops and accomplishes objectives, strategies and tactics for the department with special emphasis on Annual Operating Plan Objectives. Where appropriate, institutes corrective actions, including reallocating resources, reprioritizes, and/or recommends modifications to established plans. B. Develops and maintains a departmental structure, operating procedures and core staffing to meet demands for services. C. Establishes and/or staffs appropriate intra and interdepartmental committees related to accomplishments of the Annual Operating Plan. D. Establishes and monitors operating performance standards for the department which ensure the effective day‐to‐day operation of the department. II. Skilled Communicator A. Establishes timely and effective communication with department staff to keep them aware of important corporate, divisional or departmental information and to receive information and insights from employees. B. Communicates and collaborates effectively with organizational leaders. III. Accountability A. Accepts responsibility for all aspects of leadership without blame, complaining or procrastination. B. Identifies and corrects systems, care and service delivery problems which interfere with patient, staff and customer satisfaction issues and/or recommends action to appropriate party. C. Ensures that all areas of the organization receive adequate advice, assistance, and service relating to patient care. D. Evaluates, develops, and maintains departmental performance improvement standards and measures. E. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements (e.g. JC). F. Proactively identifies potential and actual risks to safety, identifies the underlying causes and makes necessary improvements so risk is reduced. IV. Human Resource Management A. Ensures that all employees in the department know what is to be accomplished in their jobs; whether their performance is satisfactory and what they can do to improve performance. B. Supervises department management staff and others within the department, develops mutually agreed upon standards of performance, appraises performance, and provides direction ensuring effective performance of department responsibilities. C. Ensures that employees in the department possess or are developing the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their work. V. Financial Resource Management A. Monitors accomplishment of agreed upon objectives at the departmental level; and where appropriate, institutes corrective actions, including reallocating resources, reprioritizing, and/or recommending modifications to established plans. B. Develops service improvements, management systems, expense control programs etc. to ensure achievement of financial objectives. VI. Visionary Leader A. Participates in nursing leadership meetings to create a successful nursing department. B. Actively participates in Professional Practice work of the nursing department and ensures staff participate as well. C. Develops goals for the Nursing department and unit that are aligned with the Annual Operating plan.
