We are hiring a Manager, Ontario Gas Supply [Full Time Permanent] position working out of Toronto, Calgary or Edmonton office. This opportunity is open to Internal and External candidates. The Manager of Ontario Gas Supply leads the team responsible for securing necessary gas supplies, storage & transportation requirements for our regulated utility operations. This role involves negotiating and managing contracts, setting strategic objectives for gas supply, overseeing relevant gas regulatory filings and ensuring the team is equipped to handle operational challenges.

 

This position will report to the Vice President (VP) Ontario Region, with a future transition to reporting under the VP Commercial Development. As the Manager, Ontario Gas Supply, an immediate focus will be to align team capabilities with Ontario Operations’ strategies and long-term plans – this includes using a mix of internal and external resources to mitigate business risks.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Planning & Execution

Developing and implementing energy procurement strategies in accordance with internal policies and aligning with Ontario Energy Board guidance. Providing input and recommendations into the overall strategic decisions while being responsible for implementing business plans for Gas Supply. Strategically planning and identifying the budget requirements for the provision gas supply, customer consumption, transportation and storage Leading procurement strategies, plans, and research for the procurement of gas supply, pipeline and storage capacity including market, weather, and demand industry forecasts.Overseeing local gas acquisition, local gas gathering, producer services, and supporting capital budget program for gas connections.Managing Company Green House Gas Reporting (GHG), analyzing energy data, preparing reports and providing required information for any necessary Ontario Energy Board (OEB) filings.Leading contract negotiation, procurement, and administration of gas supply pipeline and storage capacity agreements as well as executing Energy supply and procurement activities, rates analysis, and utility budget planning. Designing and reviewing Energy operational procedures and processes to ensure reliable and safe operations and compliance to policies, standards, regulatory, pipeline & utility requirements.

 

Operational Excellence

Managing and administrating all issues related to utility contracts and third party service to ensure uninterrupted service.Ensuring the technical integrity, maintenance and optimized performance of the Ontario operational systems including natural gas and electricity systems.

 

Relationships & Collaboration

Liaising with Utility partners to ensure EPCOR Natural Gas Limited Partnership (ENGLP) contract for the optimum contract rate.Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external contacts across different business units and functions.

 

Team Leadership & Performance Coaching

Leading all recruitment efforts including new hire onboarding program that ensures successful transition from training to working as a successful CSC for all aspects of inbound services for the Energy Service Contact CentreManaging team and individual performance by setting SMART performance objectives, providing coaching and development support towards achieving quality results and building succession pipeline.

What’s required to be successful

 

Bachelor’s Degree relevant to the field is required.Masters Degree and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) highly desirable.10+ years’ experience in energy operations combined with 5+ years of progressive managerial experience.Expert knowledge of energy and natural gas markets, energy (gas) procurement practices, gas storage control and systems planningExperience managing renewable energy and power projects and initiatives in a regulated business is an assetKnowledge of networking or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. Strong business and financial acumen combined with data analysis and numerical skills Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; is able to lead professional teams as well as collaborate effectively with regulatory staff, gas pipeline marketers & supplier representatives Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office applications specifically Ms. Excel and thorough working knowledge of database concepts and common applications e.g. Python

Jurisdiction: MGMT

Hours of Work: 80 hours biweekly

 

Location: This position may be eligible to participate in EPCOR’s Where We Work hybrid program from either our Alberta (AB) or Ontario (ON) office location – depending on business needs and upon meeting the eligibility requirements. Candidates must also be able to work Ontario hours.
