Summit Search Group has proudly partnered with Recycle BC and SK Recycles on the search for a Manager, Operations. They are not-for-profit Extended Producer Responsibility organizations for residential waste packaging and paper recycling in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Recycle BC ensures packaging and paper product is collected from households and recycling depots, sorted and recycled responsibly. Recycle BC provides recycling services either directly to communities or by working in partnership with collectors like local governments, First Nations, private companies, and other not-for-profit organizations. SK Recycles was established to help obligated businesses meet their requirements under the Saskatchewan Recycling Regulation, helping to share the cost to Saskatchewan municipalities of providing recycling of household waste packaging and paper to residents.

Position Overview:

Manager, Operations at SK Recycles, Saskatchewan oversees the post-collection services for SK Recycles ensuring successful contract execution with all receiving facilities as outlined in the Statements of Work (SOW). This role manages the receiving facility network, ensuring smooth operations and continuous improvement. The Manager, Operations maintains communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective interaction within the program and stays updated on new technologies and processes to keep SK Recycles competitive.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain relationships with receiving facilities, chairing regular meetings to address issues. Work with the Director, Post-Collection to onboard new facilities, including negotiations and contract renewals. Ensure facilities adhere to the Statement of Work (SOW) and manage changes through proper procedures. Ensure facilities are ready to accept and process designated materials, focusing on ongoing improvement. Develop plans with Manager, Commodity Marketing and Manager, Logistics to address potential network disruptions. Work with facilities to trial and implement new technologies and processes. Ensure facilities meet reporting requirements and oversee the review of monthly mass balance calculations. Manage the delivery and reporting of inbound materials, developing best practices for oversight and contamination reduction. Improve methods for tracking recycled materials and collaborate with the service provider on data reporting. Work with other SK Recycles departments and stakeholders, participate in industry projects, and drive strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education related to an engineering or environmental background (i.e., industrial or manufacturing engineer, environmental studies), Business Administration, professional designation from a recognized procurement organization, or equivalent experience. At least 5-7 years’ experience in education field (as above), operational optimization, waste management or operations management. Knowledge of waste management, materials management and logistics or related operational business activities. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Good verbal communications skills. Excellent relationship management and managerial skills. This position will require an individual who is able to communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels. Very strong analytical skills and numerical acumen. Excellent writing skills.

Working Conditions:

Flexible work schedule requiring periods of extended working hours to meet deadlines during peak periods. Ability to work in an environment that is open to the elements and may be dirty and surrounded with heavy machinery and processing equipment. Requires travel within the province to meet with receiving facility partners. Valid driver’s license is required. Hybrid
