Manager, Pharmacy - Pharmacy - Full Time
Position Summary: Responsible for the overall pharmaceutical care provided to patients, medical, and other health care personnel. In collaboration with the Medical and Administrative staffs, the Director of Pharmacy ensures that the department meets all legal and accreditation/certification requirements. In addition, the Director shall ensure that the department complies with all applicable hospital policies, procedures, codes, and standards. Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive pharmacy experience indicating increasing responsibilities as required. Responsible for making critical administrative decisions. Must exercise judgment affecting patients‘ care and direct pharmacy personnel. Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with medical and nursing staffs. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) with a license to practice pharmacy in the state of Pennsylvania. Essential Functions: Assures compliance with rules and regulations of all federal, state, and local governments. Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization. Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services. Develops and implements a strategic plan for the department that supports the mission and goals of the organization. Supervises overall daily operations, supervises pharmacist and supportive personnel in providing pharmaceutical care to hospital inpatients and ancillary patient care areas. Develops/enforces policies/procedures that promote safe, appropriate, cost effective medication use. Provides and maintains department staffing, counseling, training, and supervising all employees. Evaluates performance of pharmacy personnel. Assures adequate control and documentation for purchase, inventory, and record keeping of controlled substances. Prepares work schedules. Conducts pharmacy staff meetings and provides educational needs of the staff. Develops and maintains a Medical Staff approved drug formulary. Attends designated in‐service programs. Ability to meet pharmaceutical care needs of infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients. Establishes systems that ensure the confidentiality of patient information. Suggests appropriate cost‐effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed. Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and critical pathways as approved by appropriate committee. Facilitates the identification resolution, implementation, and communication of cost‐effective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff. Facilitates implementation and maintenance of safe medication use processes throughout hospital. Supervises medication storage and preparation areas throughout the facility. Ensures maintenance of an adequate drug supply. Prepares a pharmacy budget annually and makes adjustments to that budget as requested. Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines. Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets. Ensures preparation and submission of patient charges per established guidelines. Participates in all committee functions required by the organization. Other Duties: Performs staff pharmacist duties as well as own duties. Fulfills on‐call obligations per pre‐arranged schedule. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
