Manager, Physical Security & Life Safety Systems
Overview This job contributes to REI’s success in protecting our people, product and profitability by leading the team responsible for providing best-in-class design, support, and maintenance of the physical security and life safety systems in our retail stores, distribution centers and experience-based locations. This manager will leverage proven project management skills and security mindset to create innovative security designs and lifecycle management plans for physical security infrastructures such as access control, intrusion alarms and CCTV systems. This position serves as an effective cross-divisional partner to internal teams and manages all associated vendor relationships and contracts. This position drives team results, ensuring on time, on budget project delivery as well as swift effective response to emerging security-related needs. Responsibilities and Qualifications Leading the Way Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results. Supports the implementation of company projects, programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages. Challenges and inspires employees and vendor partners to achieve business results. Ensures employees, vendor partners and contract workers adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing selections. Conducts and ensures the completion of individual and/or performance reviews. Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results. Establishes and maintains visibility within the department. Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action. Your Planning & Navigating Requirements Manage the team responsible for designing and maintaining the co-op’s physical security and life safety systems. Assign, monitor and review progress on a variety of projects. Provide technical guidance on more complex issues. Use sound project management principles to ensure security projects, programs and strategies are effectively implemented. Assist in evaluating, updating and refining security policies and procedures and ensuring consistent compliance across various lines of the business. Provide input and operational insight to overall security strategy and budget planning. Responsible for overall program management and service delivery for security and life safety systems equipment including, but not limited to access control, fire detection, intrusion detection, electronic article surveillance (EAS) and CCTV systems. Provide detailed reporting of security systems usage and overall function on an established cadence and as needed. Assess and provide feedback on internal systems and processes that support physical security and life safety system features. In coordination with other Asset Protection leaders, identify and prioritize new capital security projects. Manage vendor contracts, deliverables, relationships and service level agreements for maintenance of security systems and features. Work with cross-divisional partners to understand changing security needs and use your robust understanding of emerging technologies to make sound recommendations. Serve as an example to other employees by demonstrating exemplary work habits, which contribute to teamwork, productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency; maintains own current functional knowledge and skills to assist staff with daily workload as needed. Qualifications 10+ years in the security field with proven knowledge of physical security best practices to include, but not limited to design and optimization of physical security and life safety systems, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) principles and the Zones of Influence 5+ years supervising teams to achieve specific outcomes. 3+ years security design and project management, preferably in a retail environment Experience overseeing security installations during construction projects Proficiency in a variety of security systems, applications, hardware and practices related to access control and video surveillance. Working knowledge of physical security systems, principles and standards Continuous improvement mindset with an emphasis on seamless, invisible security systems and excellent customer service Certification(s) (or ability to obtain them) in common security systems Certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Experience assessing various contracts, managing vendors and service level agreements Ability to travel beyond your base location/region up to 20% of the time to both in state and out of state locations Experience managing vendors to achieve specific, timely outcomes Closing At REI, we believe the outdoors is for all.
